    All around the island: SEMPREVIVA

by KaterinaJordan Updated Feb 19, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    "SEMPREVIVA" means "Life for ever".

The flower looks like dry one but it isn't. You can keep it in your vase or elsewhere without water and it will remain there, keeping this delightfull yellow colour, for ever.

The only place that this flower can be found is in the rock island "Chitra" or "Avgo".

4-5 people know how to climb in this rock and gather the flowers, something that takes place every May.

What to buy: Let me tell you the myth of this flower.

When Paris took Belle Heléne from Sparta on their way to Troy they stopped at Kythira.

But Helen was jealous about godess Venus (who lived in the island)and was claiming to Paris demanding to tell her that she is the most beautiful woman.

And Paris tried to solace Helen describing her beauty:
"You see this flower? Your hair is like the flower's yellow colour, your body is straight like the flower's one and your skin is as soft as its stalk. Your beauty will remain for ever... And the flower was named "Sempreviva"

What to pay: Very cheap. The one you see in the photo costs 2 Euro.
