Agios Spyridon is a simple church with a yellow facade across the road from the ferry docks. In English it would be St. Spiridon. This saint was born in Cyprus and became Bishop of Trimythous- still in Cyprus. However he's the patron saint of the island of Corfu - an island he seems to have saved twice. For this reason there are several churches dedicated to him all over Greece.

Take a roam around Piraeus and see the sights - interesting buildings, architecture - and the people.
If Id had time I would have gone to a recommended museum but I arrived after closing time but still with several hours of daylight to see the locality. So I went for a walk down into Piraeus central to the marina and back around via the Carrefors supermarket - which is always a good way to see the locals - and via an internet cafe/bar.

Along the way during my roam from the ferry ticket booking area and ferry terminals there were a number of interesting buildings around the place - interesting architecture and interesting artistic addons such as statues and decorations.
Worth going for a roam with your camera - head for the marina - which is easy to find and then back up the other main road that runs parallel back to the port.

I was directed to a really good internet cafe - on the same street as the Carrefors supermarket but right along further, away from the marina, across the main road that goes back down to the ferry terminals, up a bit of a hill.
Reasonable price - something like 1 euro an hour - fast broadband and comfortable place with a bar.

This church was along the road from the ferry agency area to the main centre of town - it was open and in I went to find a beautifully decorated interiors with a range of colours, clear patterns and paintings of biblical persons.
After taking a number of photos - without my flash on - and not having seen any signs anywhere a person came up to me to state 'No Photos!'. So I was lucky then that I did get quite a number of good photos because I had to stop.

There are more than 1400 islands in Greece, of which only 227 are inhabited. Only 78 islands have more than 100 inhabitants.
The Saronic Gulf or Gulf of Aegina in Greece forms part of the Aegean Sea and defines the eastern side of the Isthmus of Corinth. It is the eastern terminus of the Corinth Canal, which cuts across the isthmus. Islands that are lined in the middle of the Gulf are Aegina, Salamis, and Poros along with smaller islands of Patroklou and Vleves.
The origin of the name comes from the mythological king Saron who drowned at the Psifaei lake (modern Psifta). The Saronic Gulf was a string of six entrances to the Underworld, each guarded by a chthonic enemy in the shapes of thieves and bandits.

There are a couple of handsome churches if you're interested in that kind of thing. Just near the harbor you will see Agia Triada Church. It was built in XVIII century and famous with its carved iconostasis.
Ruins of the acnient city at the bamesent of the cathedral of Agia Triada and the acnient neosoikoi in Zea and Cartnahus navy yard, can be seen.

The Saint Nicholas Church is a yellow stucco, modest size building located right on the harbor.
Another architectural treasure of Piraeus is the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.
Further more on the right we see the building of the Naval Hospital (previously "Russian"), that was founded in the beginning of our century from the knjaginja Olga, with expenses of the Tszar, for the crews of the Russian navy often harboured in Piraeus.

It's a wooden deck having the whole bay as a view, that is a cafe in the morning / afternoon and then becomes a bar in the evening, playing mainly mainstream music. At the ground floor there is a restaurant.
I love the cafe
Drinking your coffee or beer on this deck, makes you think that you are being on an island. Sea all over, the beautiful boats, the sea-breeze, and the sunset paints the hill golden.
When I'm in the area at summer, I enjoy to visit this place and spend some relaxing hours here.
PS these are not applicable to the restaurant in the ground floor though, but this is another tip.

Also known as Mikrolimano (little harbor), is one kilometer far from Passalimani, close to Neo Faliro coastal zone Olympic complex. This picturesque little harbor houses many colorful fishing boats. It is popular for its waterfront fish taverns and has a more relaxing ambience than the larger harbors. The last years many trendy clubs and bars where located at the north side of Tourkolimano attracting young people from all parts of Athens and making it a popular hang-out for tourists.
