    Bat n' Ball

by chazgilbert Written Aug 14, 2007

This is the mother of all beach sports - bat n' ball. Far more people do this than go water-skiing or doughnuting. Best of all, it only costs a couple of euros for bats... and ball.

Don't try to save drowning bees from wet sand with your bat. I tried it - and my bat snapped. It was a sad day - but my holiday just about recovered.

Equipment: Vagelati Supermarket has a fascinating array of bat n' ball related equipment - from 2 euro budget sets to super-duper 15 euro bats. Hardcore!

    Tennis in Lassi

    Check out that forehand

I've never been much of a tennis fan - but a few games was just what I needed to get get re-energised after a long day on the beach.

Lassi's tennis court is located behind Maris Yialos beach, on the main road. It's linked up to First Choice accommodation, but was always empty when we saw it.

The owner charges different rates according to what holiday company you've travelled with - if it's not First Choice, you can expect to pay 6 euros per hour; rackets and balls included... which is pretty good.

The court is hardcourt - I chose to play barefoot and paid the price with some pretty hefty blisters the next day.

Equipment: All equipment is provided, but I would advise taking along some trainers. There's a bar nextdoor if you get caught short for water.

    Sami Beach

    The beach

Sami Beach is a pebbles beach you will find almost out of town, heading north (to the left if you are looking to the harbour).
Not the best beach in my life but pretty nice, with a pedestrian walkaway, transparent waters and walking distance to town.
It's got public showers and a wooden cabin to change your clothes.
