    Phone Box: Telephones

    by kevin36 Updated Feb 23, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can get phone cards for the phone boxes from the little kiosk on the harbour front.
If you phone the UK they will last 10mins and also if you press the i button it will translate into English.
Also I can confirm that T mobile phones do work on Kefalonia, however to call the U.K.
you need to Dial: +44 (then leave off the 0 of the area code) I.E. London
    +44181(then the number)
But its cheaper to buy a phone card and use the the phone box.

    What to buy: Phone card
to phone the UK you need to Dial:
0044 then miss off the 0 from the area code ,for example London would be:
    0044181(then the number)

What to pay: 4:00Euro (will last 10 mins to UK)

    Klaoudatos Market: Supermarket

    by kevin36 Updated Feb 23, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The people in this shop were so helpful, we went in to buy the usual items, not knowing what we were getting and not speaking Greek.
I picked up a six pack of water and went to the till only to be confronted by a very pleasent girl who calmly said: Are you sure you want that one?.when i questioned why ,she said:Because that is three euros more than the other water, and unless your on a diet you don't need it.
If that wasn't enough,it was pointed out that the carton of what we thought was milk turned out to be Fermented milk, but again we were helped out in almost perfect English that maybe the other bottles would be better.
Such genuine people and honest with it.

    What to buy: Sun Cream
    Beach Shoes (pebble Beaches)
    mossie repellent
    Anti Histermene cream
    Travel Adapters
    A Good hat
    Beach Brolley
    Beach Mats
Air Bed (we had a lot of fun in the sea with this)

What to pay: Normal local Prices, the rule normally is : if it comes from outside of Greece it will be more expensive, but not cigs they can be cheaper from the kiosks.

    Argostoli by night

    by Susi_Blackforest Updated Aug 6, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, is a wonderful place to visit in the evening.
Many shops are open in the evening and Valianou Square and the Lithostroto street are very busy with people.
Have a walk, a meal maybe at the great Souvlaki place opposite the Prefecture - there is only one Souvlaki place there (between Valianou Square and Lithostroto Street), maybe a lovely fresh ice cream on Lithostroto street and enjoy this lovely place.
Then you will surely be able to find a few nice presents or souvenirs in one of the many shops.

    Robola: Kefalonian Wine

    by Susi_Blackforest Updated Aug 6, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We went to visit the Robola Winery in Michata and took part in a tour of the winery and a wine tasting.

There is not only this winery in Kefalonia, but several others. You can usually find the locations marked on the maps of the island that you can buy at shops all over the island.

What to buy: One of the many excellent wines they produce, white, rose or red, all very good.
They are cheap at the winery, but if you have missed buying any, you will have a chance at the Duty Free of Kefalonia Airport to buy some Robola and others of their wines, but be aware they will be slightly more expensive (but still much cheaper than wine in the UK).
