I can't believe we fell for it!!! There is a submarine type of boat in Chania. A nice looking, yellow vassel that for 15 Euro ( or more ) takes you inder water to see all the imazing sea life in the Venetian Harbour of Chania. YEAH, RIGHT! First of all there is NO SEA LIFE in the Harbour, only man made rock (yes, concrete). Second, the submarine is small, and there is no AIR inside. Smart owners run it only every few hours so when you buy your tickets you don't see disapointed faces of people who are getting off the boat. Whatever you do, remember, THERE IS NOTHING UNDER WATER OF CHANIAS HARBOUR!!!
Unique Suggestions: ...at least take a plastic bag with you so you can barf in it.
Fun Alternatives: I believe that those 5 Euro "glass bottom" boats are your option....even if you will not see any sea life, you will have a nice boat ride.

Fun Alternatives: For 3€70 Ktel will take you all the way to Kissamou Kastelli in a comfortable airconditioned bus giving you a good impression of what Crete is really like.

As a local of Hania, 2 tourist friends visited me on September 2004. They wanted to hire a car, and we were at the airport. i told them :lets hire a car from the airport, airport has five hire offices. We went there and noone had a car available!!!!!!!! JESUS CRIST!!! We found. Finally we found a small car at 60 euros!!!!!!!!!!!! i told to my friends:NOOO!!! we will find a cheaper car from the town. Finally we find with a very easy way from town , at the price of 39 euros per day. Be very suspicious at what you buy at the airport of Chania, because the prices are VEEEEERYYYYYY EXPENSIVE, and the reason is that all that offices at the airport ,pays from 3000 to 5000 euros rent per month. So someone have to pay, but not YOU!!!!!
Unique Suggestions: ask for greek yellow pages and find easilly a car to rent, or go to town. At the place of the venetina horbour, or at souda horbour, or anywhwere you will find hundrends of rent a car at veeeeeeeeeeery reasonable prices.
Fun Alternatives: speak to a local who is no interfear with the same job, to tell you his opinion

Prices are going higher everywhere in Greece, but the Chania Airport is the worst kind of tourist trap.
EVERYTHING is expensive. Don´t buy anything from airport.
Fun Alternatives: However, your flight may be late, so buy something to drink and eat from town before you leave.

You should rather go through some of the narrow streets in the old town. There lie hidden some excellent restaurants with much lower prices.
