Well, the food was SO good in Almirida we just couldn't stop eating. We soon narrowed the eating out to one restaurant, Dimitris. It was the only one left open by the end of the week and was obviously open all year round for the locals.A real family affair with,I think, four generations helping run the business. The family owned their own farm in a nearby village and all the produce was theirs including the meat. I have never seen such huge pork chops. I even tried the quail. Everything was so delicious.Nothing else to do in the evenings but EAT!!!!
Nothing fancy!!No black tie required.
Cretan evening II
by snorril
Well I got pick out of the crowd and led by a good looking dancer towards a small table that stood there on the stage. We got up on the table and started our dance. For a while we did OK but the table was damn small and I had a few close calls. Of course in the end, after I had stirred all the alcohol in my blood, I fell of the table but produced a heroic life saving in the process. People had a great laugh.
Some inland village: Cretan evening

Some might categorize this tip under "tourist trap" but I´d like that trap any time.We bought this Cretan Evening from our travel agent. The price is high but this was an unbeliveable fun. We had a good simple food, all the wine we could drink (see next tip) and performance from local dancers. The event took place in a small inland village and the stage was beautifully set in a garden with a small stream and tall trees. Of course they started picking people for the stage and i got my moment of fame - twice.
