 | Prefecture of Chania Restaurants | Tips 1 - 9 of 9 | | This place had superb food and was such good value. We would go here if Michael wanted a pizza. They had lots of cooked dishes here and excellent vegetables. The service was very swift as well, not at all Greek.
Aubergines stuffed with mince and cheese sauce. Delicious!! So many scrumtious dishes. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Ireon Restaurant, KalyvesDirections: On the left of the main road, heading east.

Portes - "doors" in Greek makes a refreshing change in Chania - no touts trying to tempt you in and Greek standards but with a twist. On street seating and in case of bad weather plenty of space inside. Check out the daily specials board as well!!! Very reasonable prices for the Old Town - 28 euros for 2 including a litre of house (local) red wine, walnut cake dessert and a karafaki of raki on the house
October 2004 - We made up a mezedes from the starters because we couldn't decide - everything sounded wonderful - cheese saganaki with bacon, prawn saganaki livened up with chillis, roasted red peppers with cheese and a couple other dishes were more than enough for 2 hungry people. Excellent Update - revisited in June 2006 - food still excellent (prawn saganaki to die for)- people still lovely - treat yourself, when in Hania - eat here!! An amazing place, open all year. Wonderful fresh food in huge amounts! Good local, boxed wine. Very reasonable prices. A wonderful atmosphere as we ate inside most evenings as it was so cold and could watch the whole family at work and chat to them. Recommend this place to anyone. The Greeks certainly piled in at the weekends.
Everything!!! As I have said in the nightlife tip, their meat was from their farm as were the vegs. On the road that crosses Kournas you will find the taberna I kali kardia. and the tables on the other side of the road. It is a good choice for a nice meal. We tasted local sausage, lamb souvlaki and dakos (bread, tomato and cheese) with fresh local wine. Dessert and tsikoudia were offered at the end.

An OK place on the junction for Aptera, in the village of Megalo Horafia. We originally stopped for a drink but noticed omelettes were on offer so ended having a chip omelette and a plate of squid. It was advertising various dishes on a board but we weren't that hungry. The food was very good and the owner friendly. We made friends with a ginger cat here. He was a real beaut. Nice, relaxing lunch. There was a construction site next door which looked like it was going to be some large accommodation of some sort.
We enjoyed our squid and omelette. It was just what we wanted for lunch. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Megalo HorafiaDirections: On the outskirts of the village, on the junction for Aptera, I think.

When we ate here, on numerous occasions, in 1992 we were always warmly welcomed. We noticed it was still there in 2001 with the same proprietor. A good choice of food at good prices and a really friendly atmosphere. We made so many friends on this holiday and usually all ended up eating here. Our son, Michael, 5 at the time, was given free eggs from the owners chicken to make him strong, like spinach did to Popeye!! We were given free ouzo and rakki as well as cake. It was always busy here and we had to eat indoors as it was cool in the evenings.
Everything was good but I remember having a chicken pie which was excellent and made a real change from the usuals. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Kalyves, CreteDirections: Just off the square, by a bridge.
