 | Prefecture of Elia General Tips | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | The whole of this coast, from Kala Nero to Katakolo is one massive stretch of wonderfully sandy beach, some with sand dunes. Gently shelving and on the whole, no facilities. At Neochori there is a parking area where a few motorhomes were parked but in other places, just emptyness. At Kakovatos, slightly north of Neochori, the pleasant village tumbles down to the magnificent beach. The odd beach bar is to be found hereabouts.
Evening swims at Neochori, swimming in the final rays of sun as it set. Wonderful. Leave a Comment

Some of our best memories from Elia are staying at the priest's house in Neochori. Our hosts were so kind and generous and the apartment was in such lovely tranquil surroundings. I don't know what it would be like now but I don't expect things will have changed too much. Leave a Comment

The beautiful mountain scenery is amazing. All of a sudden you will find yourself looking onto an agricultural plain complete with ancient threshing floors. Total wilderness. If you want solitude, this is the place. Leave a Comment

Ilia is one of the 51 prefectures of Greece and one of the 14 where I have been. Ilia (also Elia) is a prefecture in the Western Peloponnese and in Western portion of Greece. The prefecture is part of the periphery of West Greece. It covers the area of ancient Elis, and was formerly a department. Its capital is Pyrgos. Its coast line includes 120 km of sandy beaches. Here lies the ancient ruins of Elis, Epitalium and Olympia. The Olympic flame of the modern-day Olympic Games is lit by reflection of sunlight in a parabolic mirror at the restored Olympia stadium and then transported by a torch to the place where the games are held. When the modern Olympics came to Athens in 2004 the men's and women's shot put competition was held at the restored stadium.
