This is the cathedral of Amarynthos and the name means “The Dormition of Virgin Mary”.
This beautiful church is really worth to be seen so I didn’t regret walking for a while under the heat (it was 40+ celcious degrees that day!) for the sculpture stones of the exterior and the beautiful temple from marble. Most of the wall paintings are from the Byzantine period.
Amarynthos is located north of Athens acroos the town Kalamos. You can go to Oropos (45km from Athens ) take the ferry to Eretria and from there to Amarynthos (10km away). You can also go from Chalkida.
The car is the best option but there are buses from Athens to Oropos and from Eretria to Amarynthos.
if you have a boat every small town and beach looks beautiful to reach and see anyway! :)
