We decided to try another restaurant in the evening and this time I tried to find a budget restaurant with tasty food.
Kostas Dafnoulis, the owner never stops working he admitted. He is doing many things at the same time, and has very little time to himself and his family.
I asked him to come and sit with us when I saw that what we ordered was so tasty.
He is the owner of a butchery and the meat of the restaurant comes from his own animals. He sounded an interesting person quite talkative, but he could not sit with us for more than 10 minutes. Customers filled the restaurant so he had to get back to work.
We enjoyed our food, - mostly grilled meat, stakes, chops, and kebabs are the restaurant’s popular dishes.
The name ‘Ta Adelfia’ in Greek means “The brothers”. This probably shows that all brothers are connected to the different businesses.
I would gladly go back to this restaurant when I visit Skyros again in February, and I recommend it to people who want to enjoy an inexpensive and tasty meal.
His restaurant is only 20 metres on the right as you come out of the ferry.
We came here to try some Traditional Cuisine. I read in the leaflet brought to us good comments made from one or two magazines. We expected the best.
We ordered among other dishes – tiropitari, (4.00 euros) -(fried pastry with cheese very popular on the island). We were brought 3 small pieces with a very bad smell and taste, almost bunt in very old oil, which must have been used again and again.
We were so disappointed!
We also ordered zucchini croquettes for 4.50 euros.
The rest of what we ordered was ok, but you don’t expect to get this especially if you see their catalogue and find printed comments below!
Some other prices are the following:
Mixed sea food dish (small for 2 persons) 19.50 euros
Mixed sea food (large dish for 4 persons) 34.50
Saganaki shrimps, cheese and tomato …10.90 euros
Yellow lentil puree at 4.50
If you don’t want to have bread just say it from the very beginning because you are brought bread that you might not even touch and they charge you for this.
The same happens with water. They charge you the water even if you don’t open the bottle. Ask them to take it back if you have not touched it. You will save at least 4 euros out of bread and water!
In all we found the restaurant expensive, and disappointing. I would not recommend it. There are many others to choose from in the round area.
For people who don’t want to spend much on food, a nice and very popular restaurant in the centre of Chora, is “Mantzourana”.
We did not want to spend much that night as we were not very hungry so we came here. With surprise we noticed the number of people coming ordering gyro and kebab to take home with them.
The kebab was excellent and very delicious, and the wine we had in the karafe was ok.
There is a nice view from the big terrace over the restaurant with a vine pergola but this is only open during summer.
We paid just 13 euro for 2 Kebabs on sticks, 2 Gyros in Pitta, Potatoes, and a quarter of red wine in a karafe.
Because kebabs are served with potatoes prefer to order a Tzatziki instead, unless you love potatoes so much. Or order a Tzatziki as well as you don’t pay much here.
They did not give us a receipt though, and we noticed it when we got to the hotel.
Ask for your receipt even if you pay very little because this is illegal.
