    Chalkis Things to Do

If you stand at the old bridge over Evripos channel you will probably notice a strange natural phenomenon. The water changes direction every 6 hours! It stands still for 8 minutes and then it goes the other way. When I was younger my parents were telling me stories about a scientist that stood there for days to understand what was going on and when...

Before many years it was so difficult to walk in the forest because of the big vegetation. In some parts the ferns were so big and it was imposible to walk. At my last visit in 2000, i realised that the scenery was a little bit different. There were many paths and it was easier to reach them.

    Amarinthos Things to Do

This is the cathedral of Amarynthos and the name means “The Dormition of Virgin Mary”. This beautiful church is really worth to be seen so I didn’t regret walking for a while under the heat (it was 40+ celcious degrees that day!) for the sculpture stones of the exterior and the beautiful temple from marble. cafes along Paralia Avlidhos 1 more image

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Some times simple things are better than popular sights. We spend only an hour at Paralia Avlidhos but the relaxing moments next the the Evoic gulf, watching the small port of this town toped our day trip along the coast. Exotic café wasn’t exotic of course, a typical greek cafeteria that serve the usual coffees and drinks. The beer was cold enough, the coffee good but the sangria wasn’t a true sangria. The prices were lower than an average greek cafeteria. The owner turned on the big screen so the customers watch the Olympic games of Bejiing but who cared, I preferd the sea next to me…

I also liked the inner sleve of the menu where some words of ADD al KADIR (1587) were written. Here’s the translation:
Oh coffee, drink of God’s glory!
The incomparable flavor brings euphoria and style to the people.
Where coffee is served there is greatness, brightness, friendship and happiness!

The owners are fishermen and they have their own catch each day not depending on the market so nothing can go wrong with the food here as everything is fresh and smells sea! Ayioi Apostoloi Things to Do

Ayioi Apostoloi is a small seaside settlement in South Evia that most people visit because there are some fish taverns. Although there is a beach in front of the houses there are many others beaches in close distance so it’s very convenient to come here and have lunch. Evia has many nice beaches to choose from and so does the area around Ayioi Apostoloi. If you stay there you may want to try the beach of Ayioi Apostoloi, a sandy beach that lies in front the village (see pic 1) and it’s organized with umbrellas and some showers but the truth is that it’s convenient if you just want to be in walking distance from...
