While driving on the "Egnatia" new highway (A2) from Alexandroupolis to Soufli or Didymoteicho, you'll reach the point of junction number 43 as it is being shown clearly by a sign. This is the last junction to exit the "Egnatia", otherwise, if you continue straight ahead, you'll reach, after 10 km, at the Greek...checking point to Turkey. After the exit from "Egnatia" you have two options: First, if you turn slightly to the right, you'll be driven to Ferres (in case you want to visit Panagia Kosmosotira or the Evros Delta) and, second, if you drive straight ahead, following the sign to Bulgaria, from this point is more than clear that you're on the right way to Soufli or Didymoteicho. This junction is clearly marked, but a lot of drivers, usually absent-minded, even under daylight, do not follow the signs to the exit and they are being driven to the Greek customs house. However, if this happens to you, simply drive up there at the checking point and, after a U turn, drive back to the above mentioned junction (43). General tip: For any case of emergency (police, fire brigade or ambulance) on the "Egnatia" highway (in all its length) call free the SOS Phone 1077.
