ÁéãÝò (Âåñãßíá) - Aegae (Vergina)
Aegae was the first capital of the Macedonian kingdom. It was built by king Perdikkas I, the founder of the Argead dynasty. His origin was from Argos Orestiko in Upper Macedonia (today's Western Macedonia). When he was young, he took care for the king's sheep together with his two older brothers who took care of the king's horses and cattle. For some reason the king did not want to pay the brothers. When they asked for money, he told them to receive the sun. Perdikkas replied: We accept what you give! He took his sword and cut a sun symbol into the floor of the king's house. (Think of the symbol of his dynasty!) The king persecuted the brothers. They came to a river. The brothers could pass, but when the persecuters came to the river, more water began to flow, so they couldn't follow them.
