Walking and trecking is great up here so when you get bored in the village or you feel that you ate too many tasty pies its time to walk a bit to burn some calories. :)

There are many paths but if you want something easy you can just follow the path to Ano Pedina. It will take about an hour as you can see at the yellow signs. You will definitely enjoy it as you walk towards the village. The mountains will always be at your left and low slopes at your right.

Pansion Elafotopos also works as a small tavern/café. We stopped there for an hour and of course we loved the tables with the amazing view down the green plain (pic 1). We ordered greek coffee and we tasted some delicious hand made sweets (pic 2) all made by mrs Eleni by fruits, I tried the walnut and the neratze, both great! You may choose other flavors depending on the season or how much are still available at her jars!

All the time we were there she was coming to say “sorry” because she was busy preparing pies (something very typical in this area). Pumpkin pie, chicken pie, cheese pie and mushroom pie are some of the famous ones.

Ah, the prices are so low that we almost cried when we payed 6 euros for 2 coffees, 1 coke and 2 sweets! In Athens you need more than 15 euros for these things.

From Ioannina drive north at the main highway towards Kalpaki (about 30km from Ioannina) and turn right when you see the sign for Central Zagori or Zagorohoria. Elafotopos is about 7km away from there, you will first pass from Kato Pedina but then you will see a sign to turn left towards Elafotopos. The roads are in good condition all the way up to the village.

I guess there must be a bus coming from Ioannina but you cant depend on the bus if you want to explore this area of Ioannina prefecture because you will need to move from village to village.
