The place where N. Plastiras was inspired...

General N. Plastiras inspired the project in 1925 exactly at this place. Standing at the end of the river, where lies today the sluice of Tauropos, he dreamed this area as a huge artificial lake.
In 1959, 6 years after his death, his vision came to life, providing with water the thirsty villages and offering electricity.

The sun is over a village which crowns the lake

Small, beautiful villages spring from the lake, each one is a special moment in the history of this land, in the past and in the present. Historical monasteries are all around the picturesque villages, the most known of them are Neohori, Pezoula, Neraida.

Snow even at the end of March...

The lake lies outside a plateau of unique beauty, at an altitude of about 1.000 m.
The area is famous for its pansions/hotels, most of which have view of the lake.

Lake Plastira is located in the heart of the prefecture of Karditsa, in central Greece. There are nice villages all around. The tour around it is an amazing experience, the perimeter of the lake is no more than 70 km.
