This is a really special choice, with intense aroma of Kavala’ s naval history. In the old shipyard, there is this tiny tavern, called “Nafpigeio”. This place, opened in 1922 to serve the workers of the shipyard, is today the most “cult” tavern, where you can find fresh fish and seafood and associate with local people. If you are lucky enough, you might bump into groups of friends, who would sing along with guitars and “bouzouki”. The atmosphere is unique, also in wintertime, sitting by the woodstove and warming up your body and soul with burning “raki”.

You can eat well, almost everywhere in Kavala! You can go to Perigiali district to catch a table by the sea and choose between a large variety of traditional dishes with sea-food, or meat (my favorite taverna is “Kyra-Vaggelio" (Nyremvergis street 146).
Or, you can stay in the city center, in the characteristic old neighborhood of Saint Nicolas, where you can find cute little taverns, “tsipouradika” and “mezedopoleia”, places where you can stay for hours, clinking glasses of tsipouro, or wine and tasting traditional delicacies. Here, I prefer "Sousouro" (Ag. Nikolakou 4). This part of the city, where you can also find nice coffee-bars, is more attractive in the evening, when all the tables are set outside and there is a pleasant come-and-go until late at night.

Another choice – for those who have their own car, or wouldn’ t mind take the bus – would be “Ladofanaro” tavern, in Palio, a sea-side village, 8 kms west from Kavala. You can find excellent meat at “Ladofanaro”, which is said to be from buffalos, traditionally bred at the shores of Kerkini lake. In any case, you will eat well and you will enjoy the dew of the pine-trees and the sea-breeze.

It is one of the oldest taverns of the city and is hidden in a narrow alley above Ononoias Street at the commercial part of the city center. Greta variety of fresh fish and seafood. Its speciality is the “Achnisto”. If you are a meat lover then its meta variety will satisfy your appetite.

My favourite restaurant is called 'Palkoseniko'.
It can be considered a cheap restaurant with a really cosy environment and extremely friendly managers. The best thing is that every night (apart from Tuesday when a student's night is held) a live band plays old greek songs called 'laika'. You'll love it!
Favorite Dish: You'll just love everything included into the Menu but I'd recommend you to have a plate with a variety of goodies called 'pikilia'.
