This could be a hotel tip but its not! We went up there to see the amazing view from Kaizer’s Throne and then we realized that there is this hotel near by (pic 3 shows the hotel as seen from Kaizer’s throne). They have an amazing outdoor place with tables where you enjoy your drink.
The gorgeous view is the reason for many people that come here just to sit for a coffee/drink and watch the amazing sunset (this explains also the name in case you wonder).
I guess the nice pool (pic 2) is a good reason for some people to spend some calm holidays up here.
Another, café along Liston, actually the last one on the right, I noticed many people ordering pizza but we just had a quick break for a coffee. I cant say much about their menu as I didn’t even see it but for some reason this place was always less crowded that the other cafes along Liston, and that’s not a good sign, isn’t it?
Ok, maybe it’s because it’s on the edge of Liston. So, drunk our chocolate (3,5e), took some pics (pics 1-2) and started to walk again (so much calories to burn after all these chocolates!) :)
This is the first café you see at Liston, and yes, as you will notice there’s no much difference between them anyway, actually during peak hours you only want to find a free table near the square to sit. Liston is a popular for the visitors but also the most popular meeting point for the locals too.
I could write the same things/tip for every place along Liston, especially during the night there's no much difference, everyone comes here for socializing.
We took cold chocolate(3.10e), tsitsimpira(local lemonade 3.10e), some sweets (4-5e) and this was the first place I tried the local beer(5e) which was good by the way.
This is a small café with nice view just next to Achilio. They serve the usual beverages, coffees (2e), chocolates(3e) etcWe didn’t really spend much time here so I even forgot to take a pic :)
They also have some souvenirs but we noticed that they are in double prices comparing to the city center, probably their target are the organized groups that visit Achileion.
The word pikantiko means spicy in greek but don’t worry you can ask your souvlaki without the pepper :) This tiny place, is obviously the usual place that you can order a souvlaki, a quick and cheap way to fill your stomach.
So, no questions what to eat here, a pita giros souvlaki. It costs 2e
The surprise was that even on Holy Friday when most of these places are closed (as the custom wants the orthodox people to avoid meat during Holy Week) Pikantino was open not for selling souvlaki with meat but souvlaki with pumpkin! A smart move as it was again packed with customers waiting to try one. We did it, it was nice, kind of sweet of course because of the pumpkin.
This is the Café that is located inside the Old Fortress. The view is great there and it’s ideal for a break after walking under the hot sun. The prices are more expensive though, probably just for the privilege of drinking there with the nice view (greek way of thinking…)
We tried the local lemonade tsitsimpira(2.90e), the coffee(3e) was very bad (cheap quality I guess) and the cold chocolate (3e) was good. Service was slow although the place was empty.
Although the food in Corfu is great and really worth to try local tavern there are also some budget options if you want to save some money or you need something like a burger etc
Souvlaki is by far the most popular greek food, and it’s also a good one as it has a good variety of meat and vegatables inside. You can find it many places, we tried it at Pikantiko, Mic Mac and some other spots
Goodies (pic 1) is the most famous greek fast food chain and the good thing there is that except the usual burgers, fries and all that they have some nice salads all made with fresh local products. There is one at old Town(15, Evgeniou Voulgareos street) housed in a 19th century building.
Of course there is a MacDonalds located next to Liston(address:Kapodistriou 42), which is cheaper than Goodies but you know what you get here.
Finally, most of the cafes serve simple breakfasts, sandwiches and salads.
We enjoyed our lunch here. There are some tables outside(pic1) on the alley but we preferred to sit inside with simple but picturesque interior(pic2). You can see the foods in front of you before you order (pic 3).
All the dishes were some great simple plates, so tasty that it reminded us to homemade foods. We didn’t try any meat though but we focused on some that are based on olive oil (very typical in Greece anyway) like Arakas(6,5e), mpamies(7e), fasolakia(6,5e), gigantes(6,5e), xorta(3,5e). Pic4 shows some of them.
We washed them down with coke, water and a beer. The service was quick and helpful, not needed much information anyway as we know about these foods but they helped us with directions :)

This tavern exists since 1920. Thanks to mrs CHRISI(golden), who owned it, the tavern became very famous and the customers used to say that Chrisi had “a heart of gold” because she was very kind and friendly. People from all over the world came to taste Chrisi’s delicious meals, such as Sofrito, Pastitsada and Bourdeto which are really wroth tasting!
This is a small café near the sea, facing the central square in Kassiopi village. Pics show where the place is. It was kind of empty during april but I can imagine the place packed during the summer months.
So, we enjoyed the calm atmosphere, actually they were just opened the place for the new season (it was early april when we got there so the masses of tourists hadn’t arrived yet), the staff was very friendly but I don’t know much about their menu as we just took a cold frappe coffee (2e), a cold chocolate(2.50e) and a lemonade(2e)
One of the most popular fast food corners because of its good location at the back side of Liston. There are some tables outside but also on the first floor (too hot there).
It has the obvious (souvlaki and sandwiches) so we tried giros with chicken (2.2e) which was big but mediocre, souvlaki (1.5e each) which was served with fried potatoes and bread (for free). If you try the souvlaki portion you will pay 7.5e which is too much. Just try what the greeks eat, the usual Gyros or souvlaki or chicken on pitta (2.2e). They also serve sandwich with souvlaki(3.3e) but it’s very big.
They also serve breakfast (2 eggs with sausage 5e), omelettes with jam or cheese(4,8e), with mushrooms/sausage(5.5e), with feta cheese(5.7e), special omelette(7e), small dishes like tzatziki / cheesesalad(2.9e), chickensalad/tuna salad(3.7e), fried potatoes(2e), feta cheese(2.5e). The salads aren’t special but you can choose between simple ones (lettuce/cucumber/tomato or greek salad) to more complicated like Caesar (5.9e), roka/parmesan(5.9e), Chef’s(5.6e). We tried the one with roka and it was a big disappointment although we shouldn’t have great expectations here.
There are some spaghetti dishes (4.5e-6.8e), pork or veal chop(7.7e) and some pizzas (4-6e)
The WC was one of the dirtiest in town.
One of the best restaurants in Corfu is this restaurant/bar which is located in walking distance from Kanoni view point. It’s a typical local family run restaurant (it’s there since 1983 according to their card) with some great tasty local dishes made by mr George Mitropoulos. The menu (in many languages) has a good variety with many homemade local foods, pies, fresh fish but also some light meals. George came in our table and suggested some things and we enjoyed everything. We preferred to stay outside (pic 1) on a warm but not hot day, the next day the place was packed and couldn’t eat there :(
We started with poulp with just a bit of olive (nice) and melitsanosalata(eggplant salad) which is served with Arabic pie (nice surprise, thanks mr George!). It was so tasty I forgot to take a pic, so pic2 shows what’s left of the melitzanosalata. We also tried a mixed salad which was nice (but nothing special) but the sauce with the balsamic was perfect.
We tried soupies(inkfish) with onions (so tasty we couldn’t believe it, the sweetest small onions I ever tried) (pic3), vakalaos mpourdeto (the typical local dish, great as expected) (pic4).
We washed them down with beer and coke and at the end (for dessert) we tried the tasty walnutpie (made with koum kwat) and yogurt with honey and strawberries (pic 5)! The total cost was 43 euros.
Because of its location right on Liston it’s always full of people. We stopped many times here for a coffee or a quick snack. They have many tables outside next to the square (pic 1 shows the ones attached to the place) so you can watch the people passing by but also you can sit inside (pic 2) where the atmosphere is more peaceful, we liked it too when we wanted to chat but I guess it will be hot like hell during summer (maybe they have AC, I don’t know).
We tried several different coffees, cold chocolate (3,3e) and fruit salad with ice cream (6,5e, pic3). The coffees are nes café/filter/frappe(3.1e), cappuccino(3,3e), turkish(2.3e), espresso(2.3e), irish(6.8e) but they also have tea(2.7e), fresh orange juice(3.7e).
If you want to eat they have simple breakfasts, omelettes(5.2e), spaghettis(7,5e-9e), hamburgers(5.6e-8e), side dishes(3.5-7e), pizza(7.5e), salads(3.5-7.9e) etc I noticed that in early afternoon many greeks asked for the large dish of appetizers (24e) that has several different sea food and they wash them down with Ouzo.
They serve many drinks of course, like ouzo or tsipuro (3.50e), martini/vodka/rum/gin/tequila(6e). Although the were busy, the service was quick and friendly.
A small but charming local restaurant on the outskirts of the beautiful west coast resort of Paleokastritsa.Friendly atmosphere in nicely decorated surroundings,great food and great service,i had the Mousakka a well known Greek dish done slightly different here in Corfu,it was very tasty and filling as i had chips and salad as a side dish.Prices are very reasonable and the food aplenty.
Favorite Dish: Mousakka the Corfu way topped with tomatoes rather than cheese.
Located just two minutes from the beach on the south end of St.Georgeos is this charming Greek restaurant.Painted in traditional Greek flag colours and decorated with fishing memorabilia and old photos of fisherman and boats.There are two floors both outside but are very well shaded with thick straw roofs to keep the sun at bay.
The food was excellent i had Pastitsada a local dish,while my partner had a lamb roast.The service however was a little poor which was a real shame as i did have high hopes for the place,it took me several orders before they actually had that dish and we also had to ask several times why our drinks were taking so long when the place wasnt busy at all.Mabye the waiter was just having a bad day i dont know.I hope this wont put people of but i like to be honest on these tips.
Favorite Dish: Pastitsada-A Corfu dish,spicey grilled beef portions in a red wine sauce served with piping hot pasta.Excellent.
Spiros on the beach restaurants are in several resorts in Corfu,this one in Agios Georgeos is very nice and has a relaxed feel to it,sit inside or enjoy lovely views from the balcony area,service is good and very friendly and the price is good too.
Favorite Dish: I had the Pork Gyros,they were quite small so i had two,very tasty and filling.
