githio beach by marka13 If you are in Laconia and especially Mani area, you are in one of the "off the beaten path" places of Greece already. If you come during summer time, you will enjoy not crowded beaches and you will not believe that so beautiful places, remain so unspoilt. Sand beaches, pebble beaches, endless, or small, every kind can be found! Try, Mavrovouni, Skoutari, Marmari, Gerolimenas, Kamares, Kokkala beaches. Achillio by marka13 Achillio is on the oposite site of Porto Cayo. A fortified protected and impressive settlement. If you decide to visit it, you will be surprised to discover, that there is a spring there which makes this certain point of Mani looking like jungle, in comparison with the rest bare rocky land!!! Skoutari beach by marka13 If you start an excursion to Mani villages from Githio town, on your way to Areopolis you will find a sign pointing left, towards Skoutari village. It is a beautiful village, on a hill and it has a breathtaking view to the ocean. It has also 3 beautiful sandy and uncrowded beaches. On the second beach you will find 2 small absolutely traditional taverns where you can drink or eat something, during your all day long swimming and sunbathing! Leave a Comment

Limeni village by marka13 Limeni, is Near Areopolis, a gorgeous bay with blue green waters. The picturesque fisherman's village, unaffected by the passage of time, consists of one of the most beautiful villages of Mani and makes us suppose that it might be like one of the biggest dens of the Southern Peloponnese. There is also a fish tavern there, that has very good quality of seafood and nice view. Leave a Comment

South of Monemvasia. by nickandchris If you continue along the road southwards from Gefira, as you leave the main route you come across this beach. The wild flowers were lovely but the most memorable thing about this beach were the hundreds of shoes washed up on the shore. We tried very hard to find a pair but were unsuccessful!!! You wouldn't believe so many people could lose their shoes. They must know they started off with a pair!!!! Leave a Comment

Kamares Bay by nickandchris This is a couple of beaches in a deep bay. There is a little chapel at one end. The water was absolutely freezing and went deep very quickly. The road past the Belle Helene Hotel from Ageranos becomes narrow and rough concrete (or it did all those years ago!) There was a little kafeneon above the bay with wonderful views. Leave a Comment

Limni Gerakas is on the eastern prong of Laconia. When we stayed, the first few kms of the road were fine but then it turned into an atrocious dirt track, 19kms. of it. When you approach Gerakas it appears to be landlocked but it is a shallow, swampy bay that you follow until you reach the village. It has an island feel to it. It's very attractive with a few harbour tavernas and a panto. The Flying Dolphin calls here. A good job as it takes so long to get here by road!! Also caters for the sailing lot. Prices reflect this or maybe it's just the remoteness of the place. 2007 UPDATE; THYE FLYING DOLPHIN SERVICE NO LONGER OPERATES IN THESE WATERS, LEAVING THESE SMALL EAST COAST PORTS VERY ISOLATED. This was the most amazing journey!! The (washed out in places) road clung to the cliffs with sheer drops on unguarded edges down to the sea, very nerve-racking. We really thought we had taken a wrong turn but realised the bus had come past us. Finally the road surface returned but the approach to Kiparissi was very steep and narrow. It is a very picturesque place when you finally reach it. A couple of kafeneons (closed ) and tavernas and supposedly some accommodation which we didn't find. There is a nice looking beach to the north above which are a few buildings. It is one of the stopping off places for the hydrofoils. What a life-line it must be in this out-of-the-way place. 2007 UPDATE: THE FLYING DOLPHIN SERVICE NO LONGER OPERATES IN THESE WATERS, LEAVING THESE SMALL EAST COAST PORTS VERY ISOLATED. One of my favourite Greek beaches. The sand and water are just superb and the scenery simply stunning. We had this beach entirely to ourselves on at least two occasions. One thing that we noticed was a sign in Greek forbidding nudism and narcotics. The village is built on a hill and there was no sign of any accommodation or anywhere to eat or drink. Pity as we really wanted to stay here. Leave a Comment

Out on a limb by nickandchris As I have said, the road to Paralia Kiparissi is long and rough. You arrive at the inland Kiparissi first and get spectacular views looking towards it winding your way down the road. Leave a Comment
