    Rachi Waterfall

Rachi waterfalls, just outside Nidri are well worth a visit. A beautiful stroll through gorges and rock formations bring you to a picturesque waterfall and a pool brimming with wildlife whereas a climb of a few steps bring you to an even more impressive fall with a pool inviting enough to swim in.....and you can be assured we all did. Rachi literally means 'ridge' and it is not difficult to see why as you climb up the side of the Dimosari gorge. Allow yourself half a day for the waterfalls. The waterfalls are signposted from Nidri so follow the road that leads inland until you come to the village of Rachi where the road forks and you take the road to the right (there is a signpost directing you) and it should take you about 20 minutes to reach the waterfalls, take a drink with you although you can buy from the village

Drive down the west coast of Lefkas and you come across stunning scenery like this. At the time, we couldn't find any way down to the beach and Michael had just fallen asleep. I have since read that there is a steep descent by steps. Must be some path!!

    Sappho's Leap

Found on Cape Lefkata. Spectacular white cliffs., 190ft. sheer.
The lady was Sappho who supposedly leapt to her death after being dumped by Phaon.
It has always been known as a jumping off place, lunatics and criminals were forced to jump as sacrifices to Poseidon..
Priests would make the jump with live birds tied to them to slow their fall.
Nowadays, nothing so sinister. Hang-gliders take off from here.

    Wild seas.

This trip was on a very long ,bumpy and dusty dirt track in 1988. I expect the road is paved now. It was blowing a gale and the sea was very wild. Superb wild coastal views. There is also a lighthouse.

From Athani, along the ridge of Mega Oros, to the end of the road. Took a long time to get there.
