Stou Thoma: Excellent food, magical moments

by Sojna Updated Oct 13, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It was a pretty dark night, when we visited Maria’ s tavern at Kollivata village and it looked like a well-lit platform, full of flowers and subtle perfums, swinging in the darkness. Pretty magic!
Other than this, Maria enjoys the reputation of the best cook on the island which is not to be neglected. You can eat delicious cooked meals, among which the rare local legumes, as long as you call first and let Maria know what you got in mind.

Favorite Dish: Legumes, spaghetti, herbs-pies and traditional cooked meals.

Santa Mauritian Tavern Regantos: Food, memories and serenades

by Sojna Written Oct 13, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Regantos tavern

This is one of the oldest taverns of Lefkada city (opened in 1948), a place that still echoes the serenades and the cheerful stories of “buraneli” (old residents of Lefkada). Located on a paved little street of the old city, it looks like a colorful movie scene. The food is excellent, the wine is dark “verzami”, everything is just the way it should be, simple, generous, unpretentious.

Favorite Dish: You should try the traditional cooked meals, such as “savoro” (fresh fishes fried and then cooked with vinegar, raisins and rosemary), octopus in tomato sauce, or beef stew. There is also an endless list of appetites and wonderful fresh salads.

Tavern Giannis: Fresh Seafood by the sea

by Sojna Written Oct 13, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is worthily considered to be one of the best fish-taverns on Lefkada, with tables set by the sea-shore. Everything is fresh and well-cooked.

Favorite Dish: You should try grilled sardines and spaghetti marinara.

    O Xouros: O Xouros

by JLBG Updated Dec 1, 2008

On the sea front of Ligia, several fistarias are lined, one after the other.

Psarafistaria "O Xouros" is the only one that does not sollicit passers by, which is a good point. The food is good, the staff helpful and the prices reasonable.

    Favorite Dish: Grilled fish

    Not so bad!

I think is a perfet palce to end the beach day witha coctail of a fresh bear..or waiting for the night in Lefkas witha dj set during the hig season!

  • The New Nidri Yatch Club: Superb food

by elliemark Updated Jun 12, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We discovered the new Yatch Club restaurant on Nidri high street at the start of the second week of our holiday and what a find!! The food was excellent. There is a variety of main dishes and starters both Greek and English and all generous portions which were very reasonably priced.

We tried several dishes from medallions of steak with blue cheese sauce and gourmet burgers. There are a variety of sauces, nothing is too much trouble. There are combination dishes for when you can't quite make up your mind or you just fancy something alittle different. The resaurant is well laid out, friendly and the kitchen is spotless.

Thank you Anna for an enjoyable experience.

Favorite Dish: We enjoy eating in Nidri and there are lots of restaurants to choose from, some a little disapointing and others very good but I can truly say we enjoyed every thing we tried at the Nidri Yatch club from starters through to deserts, they were all excellent.

    A Kollokas: A Kollokas

by JLBG Written Mar 10, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

"A Kollokas" is a small tavern with an excellent family cooking, in Katouna (see my "off the beaten path" tip)
They do not have any written menu. The waiter tells you what dishes are available. One waiter is able to tell it in English or in Italian, but the other one will tell you only in Greek.

You have better come early in the evening, otherwise, in the high season, it might be packed.

    Any: Around the Harbour

by kentishgirl Updated Oct 28, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Enjoying a cocktail!

There are so many good restaurants to choose from around the harbour and in the main street, the nightlife here is the kind where you eat late, stroll along the harbour and people watch with a great cocktail!

Favorite Dish: Oh I love all Greek food so I love any of the authentic restaurants and Tavernas that the locals use.

Any of the restaurants that we visited in Nidri were superb!

I ADORE Greek food, below are a few of my favourites in no specific order-

    1. Kleftiko, Lamb, usually served with rice,
    2. Mousakka -Aubergine, minced meat, potatoes,
    3. Dolmades - vine leaves stuffed with rice,
    4. Stifado - meat stewed, with onions,
    5. Calamari - squid - deep fried usually,
    6. Kataifi - honey and nuts in a shredded whet style pastry,
    7. Baklava - Filo pastry with nuts and honey,
    8. Saganaki - a tomato based sauce, best with prawns,
    9. Tzatziki - a garlic and cucumber dip,
    10. Feta cheese on/with anything!
    11. spinach and feta pastry.

Im hungry now - gotta stop writing about food!!

    Try fresh fish!

    Fresh fish in Sivota

As in every island, you can find many tavernas-restaurants next to the sea, like this one in Sivota, a nice village which reminds... Norway (as it is built around a small fiord). Ouzo, the greek national drink (a sweet strong liquer), combines ideally any kind of seafood...
