At the port of Nydri, there are three companies that offer daily cruises to Porto Katsiki or Egremni beach, Fiskardo on Kefallonia island, Kioni on Ithaki island, Papanikolis cave on Meganisi island and Skorpios, the island of Aristotelis Onassis, the famous Greek shipping tycoon. This sounds really grate – so thought I, too – BUT keep in mind that in high season the boats can be really crowded and (as if this is not annoying enough) all the three boats sail on the same route, in difference of 5’-10’ minutes. So, practically, you are part of a big fleet of tourists that “invades” the islands one after another! Any sense of independence is lost!
And, yet, there is the worst part: The music coming out from the boat’s sound boxes is the worst! At first you’ll hear some greek folk (such as syrtaki, zorbas, etc), which is OK, comparing to what comes next: Cheap, unbearable bouzouki songs, that go on and on, with no merci!
So, if you have a sensitive ear, or you hate feeling like a seep in the flock, just avoid the cruise.
Unique Suggestions: Nevertheless, if you decide to take the cruise, arrive early enough to get a nice seat with view to the sea and don’ t forget your sense of humor and your MP3...!
Fun Alternatives: If you want to visit the nearby islands of Ithaki and Kefalonia, which are really beutiful, you can always take the ferry from Nydri or Vasiliki port. Also, if you want to swim at the amazing beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, you can take a little boat from Vasiliki, which will take you directly to the beach and will come to pick you up, a few hours later.
Nidri is the most turistic area of Lefkada island, it's full of litlle studios, hotels, restaurants and all type of bar and cafè, souvenir shops and more, but for me it's to much false...It's look like a Southempton beach, or Rimini area where everything is builded for tourists.....
It's good for a night or for a walk in a cloudy day, good for finding info in the travel agency or to do a surf moment on internet!
there is a wonderfull loung cafè with internet point and a perfect italian expresso....
