Five generations of distilling guarantees the success of this company who was tranferred at Plomari during 1860. The Barbayannis family has faithfully preserved the 140-year-old ouzo tradition, following in the footsteps of Efstathios Barbayannis. The family carefully selects high quality, natural ingredients for its ouzo and pays special attention to the ouzo distillation procedure, which is still carried out in the old, traditional way.

Lesvos is really famous for its ouzo, they say it is the best ouzo in Greece...! The main ouzo area is Plomari on the south side of the island, here are several distilleries.
Also, in the capital Mytilini, you can visit an ouzo distillery. It is located just by the harbour, where the big boats anchor. Walk towards the statue by the bathing place, and you will pass it on the way. Even smell it before you see it...
Makes good gifts for your friends or family if they drink alcohol.

What to buy: Dont leave the island without buying local ouzo, ladotyri (oil-cheese), traditional sweets ( ask for glyka koutaliou), olive oil and olive oil soap.
