Kyra-Panaghia Monastery on Pelagonisi

During the summer from Patitiri you can visit the Marine Park with tourist boats. Information regarding these excursions you can find at the Travel Agencies along the seaside of Patitiri. Excursions that will make your vacations unforgettable...

Other islands within the National Marine Park you can visit:

Peristera (or Xero) island : It has lovely sandy coves and just a few inhabitants. The bays Vasiliko in the middle of the west coast (across the canal to the east of Alonnisos) and Peristeri to the south of the island are safe places to anchor your small or medium size boat and spend the night there.

Skantzoura island : with an ancient Monastery and the white marbles. Its only inhabitants are some shepherds.

Piperi island : access to this island is not allowed.

Kyra-Panaghia (or Pelaghos or Pelaghonisi) island : where there is the Monastery of the Blessed Virgin, a dependency of the great Meghistis Lavras monastery on Mount Athos. Among the deserted islands in the Marine Park the safest places to stop would be on Kyra-Panaghia island. Planitis bay on the north coast of the island, which is one of the safest natural harbours in the Aegean, and the bay of Aghios Petros on the south-west coast of the same island, with fine sandy beaches.

Folklore Museum

The many empires that ruled Alonissos, such as the Byzantine, the Venetian and the Ottoman left their traces on the island, and those manifestations, although they call for a specific History museum, are shown at the Folklore Museum. The establishment displays a series of folk objects, great exponents of Alonissos Art and everyday life.

The Folklore Museum, which was established at 2000, depicts how life used to be before the terrible earthquake in 1965 that torn down most buildings on Alonissos. It displays olive and wine presses from the years before the blight killed the grapes in the area, and tools related to different activities performed in the place in those times, such as fishing, farming, or blacksmith tools. One of the most interesting objects shown at the Folklore Museum are the photographs of people and buildings dating from the beginning of the 20th century, along with some old maps.

Although the museum is the result of the private effort of a family which had been collecting artefacts, pictures, ornaments, naval warfare items, and other objects for years, it displays a fantastic overview of Alonissos culture.

It is a very nice sandy beach between Marpounta and Megalos Mourtias. The easiest way to get there is by boat and it is always quiet and peaceful. Don't forget to take some water and snacks with you, because there is no tavern or snack bar.

It is a very nice beach which you find on the way to Chrissi Milia with both pebble and sand, and blue water. You can go by car or bike about 2 km away from Patitiri or by boat in 15 minutes from the harbor.

It is a small beach with sand and pebbles south west of the island. You can get there leaving from the cemetery to the old village (this part of the road is not very good) or by boat. It was used until the middle '70s as a small port of the old village for the boat making daily trips to Skopelos. As there is no tavern there, it is recommended to take water or supplies with you. It is a very silent and peaceful place so don't be surprised if you meet some nude swimmers there.

Megalos Mourtias Beach and the Old Village

A very nice pebble beach, with clear blue-green water, on the south west of the island, next to Vithisma. You can go by car or bike, leaving from the old village. There are three taverns, where you can enjoy lunch or drinks. It is a very populated beach because of its beauty, calm, clear sea and because it is near old Alonissos and Patitiri.

Beach: Megali Ammos

The beach of Megali Ammos has an interesting contradiction, since its name means ‘Big sand’, despite the fact of being small and pebbled. However, visitors usually do not get disappointed from this beach, no matter what its name indicates. In fact, not only Megali Ammos, but also the region where it belongs to is wild and unspoiled areas with an incredibly natural beauty that transmits immensity. This in part may explain the name of the beach. Megali Ammos beach is placed on the west coast of Alonissos, at 5 km from Patitiri.

At six kilometres northeast of Patitiri lays a beautiful bay forming the amazing beach of Leftos Yialos. Its pure white sand, its crystalline turquoise waters and the verdant trees surrounding the place make this beach one of the most beautiful beaches of Alonissos, a real paradise on earth.

Beach: Lakes

The beach of Lakes is actually a small rocky cove with some sand. One of the distinctive facts about this beach is a windmill in disuse placed on a small rock on the left side, which also may be used as a watchtower. Lakes will surely be appreciated by those who enjoy wild nature, as it has some rough features, like its rocky terrain and sometimes, rough sea.
