Frequent snowfalls should not be a major concern for you if you think that the roads are cleared from snow by the local municipality authorities soon after the snowfall. One should consider fog as a more crucial issue instead. Between October and April, you can expect fog everyday from Portaria village and higher. Be extremely careful when driving, since the main road is quite narrow and winding. Use common sense and keep the headlights on at all times. Always consider that there may be another car on the opposite direction on the curve and keep on the right side of the road. If you are not the one who drives, then enjoy the magnificent scenery.

Weekend Traffic

Since Mount Pilion villages are popular winter resorts, they get very crowded every weekend with the roads teeming up with cars and tourist busses, making driving on the narrow streets a great challenge and causing headache to the drivers. Given the fact that there is constant snowfall between December and March, you will be asked by the local police to stop your car and attach the snowchains on the tyres. I strongly advise you to visit the villages on weekdays and not during weekends.
