    Beaches and clear water

    by Jannice48 Written Mar 31, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Skiathos has numerous beaches all with golden sand and clear waters. The beaches are typically surrounded by dense pine forest creating the most idyllic retreat.

Koukounaries; is the most famous beach on the island and this tends to lead to it being very crowded. It is popular for its white sand and fragrant pine tress and is considered the most unspoilt natural beach of the Mediterranean. You can enjoy various water sports, which are offered including wind surfing, and water skiing.
The beach is easily accessible from Skiathos town by foot, car, local bus or boat.

Fondest memory: The clear waters and blue skies

  • Town or Beach

    by David-M Updated Oct 4, 2005

Favorite thing: Skiathos is a small island with really only one main road that runs from Skiathos town along the south coast to Koukounaries (one of the most popular beaches). The route is well served by a very regular and cheap bus service that stops at all the numerous coves / beaches on the way.

If you are going to Skiathos, there is a choice to be made.

Either stay near one of the beaches (all of which are relatively small 'resorts') and travel in to Skiathos town in the evenings for the numerous restaurants, bars etc (Skiathos town is very picturesque with a pleasant atmosphere - at least in September that was so. In high season, it is very busy I understand).

Or stay in town and take the bus to the beaches during the day.

We did the latter and it suited us.

    Boat trip

by JulesH Updated Jul 24, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The best way to see the island is by taking a boat trip around it. You will have access to some beaches which are not accessible by land. Make sure you wear suitable clothing though as you may have to get out of the boat and wade to shore.

Fondest memory: The weather is always hot and sunny, the sea is always clear and blue, the sky is always cloudless and blue and the buildings are always white. The food is cheap and wholesome and the people are always friendly.

    Beautiful beaches

by chelley Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Whilst Koukanaries beach is the most popular beach on the island, Koulos is the most family friendly as the sea gently shelves away from the beach. Many hidden beaches include Mandraki which is worth the walk and sunset beach which is worth the climb. Ask a local they'll tell you how to find them!

Fondest memory: Long relaxed days, the warmth of the sun, lazy hazy evenings, good food, fruity wines and sunsets to set the world ablaze...

    Idilyic beaches

by allisoncain Written Feb 25, 2003

Favorite thing: The harbour front at skiathos is split into old and new. It is one of the most beautiful scenes with the boats bobbing up and down in the water and the sound of the yacht sails tinking in the sea breeze. Go to the Bourzi which is situated between the old and new harbour enjoy the view!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fondest memory: My friend got married there this year, she arrived at the Harbour in a horse drawn carriage I will never forget that day, the sun was shining the sky was blue ,The Bourzi was full of people mingling taking photographs it was just fabulous. It is also a perfect place to arrange a wedding.
