Leschi Komotineon is a meeting place for people of all ages. A lovely place to start the day with an aromatic coffee, have a light meal at midday or have a drink and a little chat with friends at night. At the basement several seasonal exhibitions are organised through the year and especially during the Liberation Day (14th of May) and other public holidays.

Sultan tepe is situated opposite to the clock tower. The whole atmosphere and the music is Anatolian.

Favorite Dish: "Tsitir" is a plate of minced meat wrapped in pita bread accompanied by fresh vegetables.
For a dessert ask "Yunefe", a syrupy sweet baked in the oven with unsalted cheese and grated peanut.

Komotini Nightlife

Hacienda is the most famous all-day summer bar in the district of Rhodopi. During the night and under the moonlight it becomes a must to be place. Ages from 18 to 30 gather here to have a drink and a little chat. Of course, dancing never ends. Some weekends local or famous Greek bands perform live and some others a special night (flashback to the 80’s or to the 90’s) is organized. Opening time from 22:00 till…the morning.

Dress Code: It is summer time, so feel free and comfortable with a T-shirt and jeans.

In a short distance (25-30 km) around Komotini there are many places facing Thracian Archipelago to swim into the sea. Most of them are awarded with European blue flag. When there in summer do not miss to go for swimming in "Kaggeles" beach, that is located very close to the village of Maroneia (30 km from Komotini, driving eastward) and its' ancient theater. It’s the less crowded one and with the most crystal clear blue water of all the beaches of Rhodopi. You have to be equipped with sun cream (factor 30 or more, if you intend to stay the whole day there, is recommended). The beach is very well organized with umbrellas (you don’t pay for renting one of them, but you pay for the drinks you buy) and running water. There is a café where cold drinks are served and a restaurant offering fish menu with moderate prices to lunch there. The restaurant offers the best view to Thracian Archipelago. There is also a car parking area for free, absolutely safe. Precaution: because of its’ clear water the sea is full of sea urchin, so you have to buy in advance either flippers or a floating ball. The sea is rather deep, nevertheless kids can swim safely under parents’ supervision.
