Byzantine Churches, Thessaloniki

This interesting building was 1 of the 1st churches built in the ‘Macedonian School’ style. Inside, there are important wall-paintings.

The church of St. Panteleimon’s located north of Egnatia Street, near the Arch of Galerius, on the site of the Byzantine monastery of Perivleptos.

North of Egnatia Street, near the Ancient Agora, you'll find this church of Panagia Halkeon, dedicated to the patron saint of coppersmiths.

The area where it's located, used to be packed with coppersmith shops (halkadika).

The church was built in 1028 on a site where an ancient temple dedicated to Hephaestus or Caberius once stood.

Inside the church, there are important wall-paintings and the grave of its founder, Christophoros.

In front of the church, there's a beautiful garden.

Just a few steps from the Arch of Galerius, there's this rather new, and modern church, worth a visit.

South of Tsimiski Street, near the White Tower, you can find this small church.

It was probably built on the site of the 14th-century monastery of Theotokos.
