The Airport is 16 Kms outside in south east of the main city of Thessaloniki. The Olympic Airways, which is the national Airline. It has 7 flights daily from Athens to Thessaloniki for approx. 53 Euros. Aegean Air is the private airline which is very good and has got tight competition with Olympic airways. both of the companices have their offices in airport as well as in the city. You can see their websites and get the address & phone #'s of their Office
Many of my friends were surprised that Thessaloniki has such a small airport, but it is rapidly improving its standards in both ground and flights service. Few connections to European cities with international airlines, several charter flights, but many flights with local OLYMPIC Airways. For domestic flights choose Aegean airlines if you can! Several ATMs at the departure hall, but not at arrivals (applied Greek philosophy ???), bus 78 will cover the 15 kms to the city centre (and railway station) in 30-40 minutes, buy the 0.60 euro tickets in the bus.
Not everyone is either willing or in the position to give up air travel - despite the awareness that this mode of travel contributes significantly to the greenhouse effect. Hence, For people who are concerned in regards to the environmental ramifications of their air travel, a new service has now been created: "atmosfair".
Air-passengers can donate the equivalent amount for the greenhouse gases which were caused by the flight. The funds are invested in e. g. solar, hydropower, biomass, or energy-efficiency projects and thereby contributing to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions by the same amount that would be comparable to the aircraft's emissions. Thus, your donation helps to realize these projects !

Thessaloniki is connected to many European cities by air but there are no direct connections with airports in other continents.
Olympic Airlines has flights to Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf, London, Istanbul and Larnaca.
Aegean Airlines has flights to Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart and Larnaca.
Foreign companies that have flights to Thessaloniki airport are: Alitalia (Milan and Rome), Austrian Airlines (Vienna), Cyprus Airways (Larnaca), CSA (Prague), Swiss International Airlines (Zurich), British Airways (London), Malev (Budapest) and Tarom (Bucharest)
During summer months there are also many charter flights, especially from cities in Germany and UK.
There are 2 airlines operating flights from and to Thessaloniki. Olympic Airlines, the Greek national carrier, has daily flights to Athens and frequent flights to other Greek airports, like Herakleion and Chania in Crete, Alexandroupolis, Zakynthos, Santorini, Ioannina, Corfu, Lemnos, Mytilene, Skyros and Chios. Although most people don't like Olympic Airlines, it has good quality and friendly cabin crew. In the past there used to be a lot of delays but nowadays it's much better, with some problems only during summer months or when there's fog at Thessaloniki airport.
Aegean Airlines is a private airline company which operates direct flights from Thessaloniki to Athens and Herakleion and many other domestic destinations with flight change in Athens airport. Their planes are good but seat pitch is much smaller than on Olympic aircrafts. Cabin crew is also friendly and there are almost no delays.

You can get planes for Thessaloniki for a good price. I took Aegean Airlines from Frankfurt last time. Booking the ticket online I only paid 200€ both ways, which is very reasonable. The airport is quite small, so you can't get lost. Getting to town is also no problem at all. The bus (no. 78?) only costs 50 cent, for students even 25 cent and leaves regularly. It takes half an hour to get into the city centre. The train station is the last stop I believe. By taxi it shouldn't cost more than 7 or 8 Euro as far as I know.
When I was waiting in the departure lounge i saw these pictures on the wall, showing how they extended the runway. It was really nice to see the runway starting from the Sea.... So, i thought that i should share it with you as well.
The Picture on the left if of the Runway before Extension.

There are many International flights between Thessaloniki and many european and non-european destinations. For more information you must have a look at Thessaloniki Makedonia Airpost's website.
After landing on Thessaloniki airport for a brief stopover at 8.30 p.m. This sign board was looking nice so, i took its pictures. This Picture was the first picture which i took of anything Greek on Greek Soil. I was flying with Olympic Airways and it is a really nice Airline with good fares
One may say that because of being a member of EU, there is some development project going on in Greece a lot of money is floating. The other reason for development is Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens in which few games have to be played in Thessaloniki as well.
So, the picture on the left is of the Extended Runway of Thessaloniki Airport.
Much more challenging to get to (from Canada at least), fewer flights, difficult connections. However, it is easy to get to Athens and fly up in 30-45 minutes with Olympic/Aegean/Cronos Airlines if you can't find a direct connection. Personally, I'm with KLM, they are very reliable, and professional, and they will get you there safely.
The city is linked to Athens, Hania, Heraklion, Limnos,Lesbos,Rhodes and Skiathos (during the summer).
The airport is International, situated 16 km from the city.
