Trikala is one of the 51 prefectures of Greece and one of the 14-th where I have been. I came there from Thermopylae (Fthiotida) and went back to Athens (Attica).Trikala is a prefecture in northwestern Thessaly. The prefecture was created in 1881 and contains Kalampaka and Meteora, with monasteries above the rocky ledges. It is located NW of Athens.Kalambaka is known because of the famous Monasteries that built on the tops of the Meteora rocks, located around the north and east of the town. The Metéora is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Kalambaka and is second only to Mount Athos.
