by EviP Written Jan 2, 2014

a few minutes outside the city Trikala, at Krimnitsa village there is a local cafe.
Ordering tsipouro is accompanied with free of charge homemade dishes! These "mezedes" come and go with every new bottle of tsipouro or house wine ordered !

    Road trip in the mountains

by EviP Updated Apr 10, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If/when in the general area of Trikala with the plan to visit Kalambaka and Meteora, try to avoid the main route. Instead, take the alternative road to Kalambaka through the villages of Pili, Elati (please referto my Elati page), past the ski resort of Perouli and then towards Chryssomilia and Diava. This trip lasts almost the same time as the main road, but the beauty of the scenery is undescribable!

At Pili do not miss the bow-shaped stone bridge, here photographed by night!

Just past the ski resort of Pertouli, there is a sign pointing to a right exit to the wooden village or "Xilino horio", which is a hotel, coffee/restaurant unit, isolated, in the forest between the mountains!
Great for a coffee/snack stop, or even a stay.

    Theopetra (Stone of god)

by EviP Updated Mar 1, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is no hidden place left here, except the prehistoric cave of Theopetra, where exist signs of life dating thousand years ago.
Everything else has been walked, analyzed, photographed, climbed and used numerous times.

Theopetra is a huge limestone rock (named stone of god, because its volume is so great, it was believed it could reach god) located on the national road that connects Trikala and Kalambaka, 3 klms before Meteora.
