Athymaritis pastry shop: SInfully good pastry
This store is located on a narrow street, half a block from the pier where the ferries drop off the passengers. Ask anyone for "Athymaritis" and they will tell your where it is (a couple of minutes walk from the ferries).
It is a small pastry store but it is a feast for the eyes and for the taste. No other store in the island (or in any of the nearby islands) compares to it in terms of variety and quality of the pastry.
What to buy: 1. Halvathopites (nougat based); but it from "Korres" store on the west side of the main Square.
2. Souvlaki (gyro in pita bread with tasty spices); but it at the corner store on the center of the pier where the main street leads towards the main Square. Eat it right then and there.
3. For an evening dinner out with local color, take a taxi to the village of Vari and ask to be dropped off at the Ahladi restaurant. Tables are inches away from the sea.
What to pay: It depends on what you buy, but things are generally inexpensive. Stay away from the stores that cater to tourists as their prices are jacked up.

What to pay: a box of small bites of lukumia for 1,5 euros, it is not that expensive.
