Want to get 12 LITRES of cocktails served in two goldfish bowls with neon-colored FOOT-LONG straws for €35? Really craving that pad thai or green curry even though you're in Greece? If so, Ali Baba's is the place for you.
The owner,Cookie, takes meticulous care of his restaurant, which started as an Asian food place but has recently expanded to include basic comfort food like chicken and mushroom pie,Fish & Chips and HUGE "Dinosaur Ribs" Its located on the first lower street of the hora, walk on past the pharmacy and ios bakery(there are also ios maps dotted around the village if you get lost,or simply ask your hotel owner for directions)
. Make sure to try the Thai fare prepared by the chef straight from Thailand. And a brief warning: don't do anything particularly embarrassing while you eat or drink the amazingly tasty fishbowls.....When it gets late and the restaurant fills up, the waitstaff take pictures of the partying and then flash them up on the restaurant's big screen.
FOR SURE ALI BABAS IS AN IOS INSTITUTION...DON'T LEAVE IOS WITHOUT A VISIT!
Takes credit cards. Wheelchair access. Serves alcohol. Has air conditioning.
Favorite Dish: PAD THAI
Great breakfast, Great Smoothies & perfect service!!Located on the beach of Mylopotas, just 10m from the sea!! Dont miss the hangover cocktails..
Favorite Dish: All that healthy fresh salads and the fresh made Greek salad sandwich.
Yep, here again the local knowledge came in trumps! This was a great little restaurant, slightly off the main drag and with a menu within a menu. Advertising itself as a "Steak House" the menu makes no mention of the hidden delights tucked away in the fridge under the display cabinet
"Ah John," captain Vassilli says, "You like your fish!" A rapid-fire Greek exchange between Vassilli and the proprietor ensues and I am led to the dim-lit restaurant interior and its attendant, yet empty, display cabinet. The bottom fridge door is opened and within - Ach! I resmile as I remember its contents - a pair of glistening, eyes-open, perfectly formed sea bream (well that's what I call them over here, the Greek name just seems to translate as "flat fish").
Favorite Dish: I seem to have kinda given away the punchline!! When the fish arrived it was perfectly cooked, beautifully fresh and just served simply with a chunk of lemon and some bits - DELISH!!
Moral of the story - Always follow the local advice!!
Food doesn't get much better than this!!
Here on Ios, on our last sailing day before heading for Santorini the following morning, Gala and Allan decided to use up all the leftovers in the fridge and I must admit to being extremely impressed with the result!!!
Simplicity is always the best in my book and the true sign of a real cook is to be able to take whatever ingredients and turn out a decent meal with them - HA! In this case a SUPERB meal ;)))
Favorite Dish: Spicy sausage with a great tomato sauce, pasta and salad and that's pretty much it - what more could this foot-weary wanderer ask for? Yamas Guys!!!
Traditional family run taverna which stands out from most of the eating establishments in Ios village offering good local staples. Especially recommended are the grilled meats. The friendly owner will join you for a complimentary rako melo (a local drink made from raki, honey and cinnamon) at the end of your meal.
Favorite Dish: Spit roasted lamb. Very generous portion of succulent meat for about 7euros. Also excellent home made dips.
If you're hungry this is a good place to go because you get so much food.
We were a little group that just came back from a road trip, and wanted to have some good food not too far from our boat.
Here the food was good, and you really got a lot!
Favorite Dish: A lot of us tried The Ultimate Burger - the biggest burger I've ever seen!
Fantastic restaurant with awesome views. What makes this place is the relaxed, chilled out feeling, good food, live music and good staff. After food chill out in the hamocks with a drink before hitting town.
