Most of the group at one time or another on Monday, took a taxi up the road, to the town of OTZIAS which is 5 km northwest of Korissia and in the northern part of Kea. And ideal town to walk, you pass some very old buildings, some long ago abandoned and make your way up many steps till you come to the outskirts. There you will perhaps come across a donkey grazing by the side of the road a very old cemetery and just beyond that, the 600 B.C. sculpture of the "Lions"
Most of us ate at the same restaurant too, as it was highly recommended. The owner was overwhelmed by all of us and probably we made his week. The food was excellent.

One of the most famous sites on Kea is the stone sculpture of the smiling lion, attributed to the archetect of the Acropolis in Athens. This stone lion has been lying in this same spot since before 600+BC! I wonder how many visitor have sat on his stoic side? I wonder why the artist chose this isolated spot to place this lonely lion? Why a lion? Were there lions on Kea once upon a time? The answers to these and more questions are lost in the stone face of this lovely lasting lion! The Lion Lying on the hill side if asked may reply, 'Ask Me No Questions, I'll tell you no lies!'

There is a large lion with face like a cat carved out of a rock. The statue is located east of Chora and is 6m/20ft long. It was created in 600 b.B. in a time were a few monuments were created. There are a lot of myths related to this Lion.

That day, an old man passed away, and we happened to be nearby while he was carried to the church for the funeral.
Do u notice the priest dressed in white?
This is the only time u can see that, when in funeral.
Ody enough, for the Greek Orthodox religion, the day of death, is a day of inner, spiritual joy. The man is now to go real life, to the "eternal life", reliefed from all the pain and worries of the current life! This is why our church honors the event by dressed in the color of light.
