Ammos Beach is the town beach on Koufonisia. It's pretty relaxed and uncrowded for a town beach. The best part about being on the beach in the afternoon is the sun and the moon are both out at the same time and both are still pretty high in the sky. How's that for clear air?
Pori Beach is on the far side of Koufosnisia from town. Don't fret though, it's only a half hour walk if you miss one of the four daily boats from the port. There were four other people on the beach when I went and they were all naked. Even the old fella who was windsurfing stripped off his wetsuit when he was finished to reveal his birthday suit underneath. Luckily he had anchored his dingy a few meters from the beach and decided to relax and down his beers there.
There isn't much ground to be covered when walking through Koufonisia's lone town. However, it's rich in atmosphere and consistent with the relaxed vibe of the island.
Fondest memory: I'm usually a pretty fast walker, but my pace slowed considerably when I reached Koufonisia. The feeling of calm I experienced there is something I'd like to remember about my trip, especially considering that it's quite out of character for me.
