    Comfortable shoes

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Because the villages of Santorini consist of narrow walking paths without any access for vehicles, you'll do a lot of walking during your visit. This is even more challenging when you consider that you will also encounter a lot of stairs and slopes in the villages perched atop the volcano rim. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes so your feet can endure it.

  • cobbled streets and heels don't mix!

Luggage and bags: Smaller case the better, you will have to drag it up the steep streets otherwise.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: I went in July and my friend found she got a bit cold in the evenings, and it gets a bit breezy. Dare I mention a cardigan type of garment?....and she never wore her heels once due to the steep cobbled streets.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun tan lotion of course, gets very hot.

    Photo Equipment: lots of film

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: The sand on Kamari beach gets very hot, so flip flops are a must getting to the sea.

Be prepared to climb lots of stairs

by RianGreer Updated Sep 17, 2003
    The whole city is stairs

Luggage and bags: Bring a backpack if at all possable, wheeled luggage is not fun on cobblestone streets and lots of stairs to get anywhere.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sunscreen is very expensive, bring it with you to the island or at least buy it in town, at the beach you'll pay almost twice as much as in town.

    Digital camera

    by miniman2804 Written Jul 29, 2011

Photo Equipment: Now, I'm no photographer, so I offer no technical advice and no solutions.

My (cheap) digital camera suffered rather in the extreme light intensity. The high sun reflecting off the white buildings has led to rather washed out photos, as the more observant of you may have noticed.

Take advice - an expensive camera may do it, or you may be reduced to putting your sunglasses in front of the lens.

    Toiletries and Medical Supplies:

Your choices are this: Sunscreen or painful skin cancer that can kill you or make you regret living. I would shop the cheap stores at home before you leave. Its very expensive here!
