Cafe Ouzer Tavern "Aeolos" Akrotiri: Too busy eating to see the view
Well I photographed the name and well, it is a mystery to me but I will give you the phone number...as after reading this tip and my travelogue as well you will really want to visit this restaurant when you visit Santorini.
And there is a magnificent view from this restaurant which I didnot notice until later... being caught up in the delicious food. In appearance, in fact, the restaurant is quite simple. In fact their recipes are not involved and made from the fruit of the farm in season. Keep that last bit in your mind...very important for healthful eating.
Favorite Dish: It has to be the tomatoe rissoles "Tomatokeftedes" made from island grown ingredients and cooked in front of your eyes if you do the "Greek cooking" thing. I even helped place the tomato mix in the oil.
We also enjoyed round zuccini (they are not usually round) grown on the island and fried in sunflower oil after special preparation.
Oh and just to make it fun they did not speak English.

Restaurant Maria: great food, great prices and they take credit card
Restaurant Maria is located on the main road in Akrotiri just north (2 buildings) of the supermarket on the road to the red beach.
We went there because it was always busy and they were taking credit cards (we were always short on cash in Santorini).
We were very pleased with the food.
It was all delicious and the service (family run, 3 generations) was excellent.
Favorite Dish: We return to this restaurant to have our last meal before our departure to Crete.
Taverna on the edge of Caldera: Great view of Caldera
We came here for a fancy meal.
And fancy it was.
We had magnificent view of the Caldera with the sunset and view of Fira and Oia towns.
The food was superb. We really enjoyed octopus, fish and other greek delicacies.
Favorite Dish: We had here quite long dinner and were ordering small plates until we could not eat anymore.
Grilled octopus that was like no other.
Fried fish bite
fava bean dip
..... few more things
....and lots of wine and beer.
Eplateia Taverna: Great taverna - great prices!!!
This taverna is located in the centre of Akrotiri, between the bus stop and the supermarket, right across of the Best WEstern Hotel.
It is mostly a gyro place, but they have a full menu and the food is really good. The most important it is not overpriced.
Favorite Dish: We went there for very long dinner with lots of wine and food.
We had at least 7 different dishes and all was wonderful.
For desert we ordered a baclava, and we were disappointed, since it was not the first time, the baclava in the restaurant was not too good we decided to stick to bakeries from now on :-)
The Dolphins: Listen to the locals!!
During our visit to Argyros estate winery we had a discussion on places to have lunch. Mr Argyros reccommended the fish tavern "the Dophins" in Akrotiri.
On our way to Akrotiri we met VT members Rusket and Backpackermoose walking under the sun. They came with us to the tavern. Backpackermoose needed an ouzo!!
Favorite Dish: Fried fish, cheese saganaki, salad and fried tomato balls.

Tavernas Aeolos: Best food on the island
Of all the food I've had in Greece for that short week, this is by far the best I've had. We ate lunch here almost every day, whether we were close to the restaurant or not. This is a restaurant and hotel. But it was the food that attracted me here. The owner has her own olive groves on the mainland and brings her own oil for cooking. She grows her herbs in her garden that she uses in her dishes. Things to try:
-Fried tomato balls
-All the shrimp dishes
-All the dishes that have a tomato sauce
-All the mushroom dishes
Also her prices are cheaper than in the main towns.
Favorite Dish: Fried Tomato Balls.

I don't think it has a formal name: a little place near Akrotiri
This restaurant was on the way out of the town of Akrotiri on the way to the archeological site of Akrotiri. It had a porch to dine on and lots of caged birds.
Favorite Dish: The grandmotherly woman who ran the place invited us into her kitchen to check out the daily specials. We ordered a salad, tomato keftedes (fantastic, we ordered them twice) moussaka and pastitio. My husband raved about the moussaka. I'm not a huge fan of bechemel sauce, but the pastitio was delicious. And let me rave again about how delicious the tomato keftedes were!
Taverna in the centre: In Akrotori?
A good place to relax after the town walk, or waiting for the bus. The taverna has good gyros and other quick food, without being a complete fast-food place. Good and effortless service.
