Oia Village: 1800 restaurant - Oia

Santorini Cuisine at its best, combining traditional local ingredients with innovative cooking while adhering to a strong Mediterranean orientation. Candlelights, moon, salty aura coming from the Aegean Sea to go perfectly with the delicios exquisite Greek dishes.
The best restaurant that we had during 2 weeks in Greece.

This might be my favorite resturant that we fouund in Greece. The food was incredible, as was the service. The prices were also very reasonable. Go right after the sun sets and you will be treated to a perfect sky of red, orange, and purple hues.

    Oia Village: Cafe Pizza

With so many classy resturants in Oia, this place is a welcome break for your wallet. It has a great view of the caldera and reasonably priced pizzas, pastas, and omlets. Unfortunately, during dinner hours there can be long waits since there are only 2 people who work here. More of a lunch place.

    Ferentini: Taste Sensation

by steventilly Updated Jun 19, 2006

This was a truly wonderful place. It's quite near the start of Oia village, well away from the bulk of the shops, cafes and so on. It was one of the first places we looked in as we walked into town the first time we visited, and we returned one evening to dine there. It's not quite got views of the sunset, but that didn't bother us. It still has views aplenty and it has wonderful food.

Favorite Dish: Strawberry Risotto! We've wanted to try this for ages, having seen it in other restaurants on other islands. Unfortunately it was always "unavailable" due to strawberries being out of season. Here we managed to get it. It was delicious, and of course unusual, especially as a starter. It would make a good desert, being quite sweet and very creamy. As well as that we had Fava, yet another different variation, this one being a totally smooth puree. For mains we had a Santorini Green Salad, similar to that at Safora in Fira but not exactly the same, and a vegetable and wild mushroom tagliatelle.
It was the most expensive meal of our trip, at just under 50 euro, but it was worth the money.

    Seagull Cafe: Great Views

We only stopped here for a drink, though they do do a full menu. It has great views of several lovely blue domed churches and out into the caldera. For the views that it has the prices were reasonable and they had no objection at all to serving only drinks in this prime location. (We had read that some places demand you buy full meals - we didn't find this to be true anywhere).

One of Several in Ammoudi: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!

    by ct-bound Updated Jan 1, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In the tiny seaport of Ammoudi, located underneath the town of Oia, there are a picturesque strip of 4-5 restaurants that specialize in 'catch of the day' fresh seafood.

You can see the fishermen (and children) fishing with flashlights right off the dock, pulling up all sorts of exotic sea creatures for dinner.

Favorite Dish: When looking at the menu, try not to have a heart attack at the prices, they are listed by 'kilogram'. If you are interested, maybe ask what an average meal of ...'whatever' would cost.

    Kastro: Sunset restaurant in Oia

by Saagar Written Sep 8, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In search of a sunset view and dessert we came to the Kastro and did not regret it.
Excellent service and we were given a good spot despite not asking for a meal.

Favorite Dish: Most diners and sunset viewers appeared to opt for the romantic full-three-course dinners with champagne or local white. Seafood was the highlight on the menu, but we were happy with ice cream, furit salad with youghurt, vinsanto and good coffee. Expensive, compared to similar places without sunset view...

Kastro Bar: Great seafood and salads

by Orkaena Updated May 1, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This fine restaurant in Oia is located looking straight to the sunset. The foods are very well arranged and tasty. The service is excellent and they are attentive to details. The ambience is calm, smooth music, the tables in the open air surrounded by the traditional architecture of the village.

Favorite Dish: Is very difficult to choose only one dish. But my favorite is the Crabs Salad, but you can choose the Terra Salad too (ground salad or something like that), or the delicious crepes with different kinds of seafoods, cheese and vegetables.

Errrrm, I Forget! They were all great.: About As Fresh As Fish Gets

by soccergrrl Written Feb 20, 2004

On both Santorini and Naxos we found the best fish! It's obvious that the fishermen go out in the morning, and you are eating your choice of their catch that same night. Almost everywhere the routine is the same: you order a fish (or select it from the ones on ice in a glass case) and it is simply grilled on the restaurant's barbecue grill. Along any waterfront you can see the cases of fish and other sea creatures (like octopus and squid), and often you can see the chef grilling (as you can see in the photo). We ate outside, right next to the water, where all the boats were tied up.

Favorite Dish: If you enjoy fresh, simply prepared seafood you'll like anything you order! We'd never heard of a couple of types the fish before -- and when we asked about them, the waiter described the taste and took us to the case to show us.

    Katina Taverna: The freshest seafood

by ncoutroulis Written Sep 26, 2003

When I asked a local shop keeper in Fira, where I could find the freshest octopus and fish, he told me Katina Taverna, in Amoudi Bay. I didn't know what to expect, but this place turned out to be our favorite taverna. The owner, Kostas is also the fisherman. The restaurant if right on the water, and the seafood is simply the best. It's nothing fancy, just fresh grilled fish, octopus, calamari, and all the mezes that go along with them. I highly recommend it.

Favorite Dish: The octopus, or the tsipoura.

1800 Restaurant: Excellent food with wonderful view

by Gokcecicek Written Sep 9, 2003

Excellent view, with perfect food :)
If the weather is nice, I highly recommend to reserve a table at the roof. There are two options for the reservation, either around 20:00 or around 22:30. Take the 20:00 o'clock option. Prices are high, but it surely deserves, especially if you want to have an unforgettable night.
Here is the logo of the restaurant. (It may be very difficult to have reservation due to the season. So do it a few days before the night you want to be there.)

Favorite Dish: All dishes are delicious. You have many options. All the meze (entry plates) are for two people :))
