Pirgos: Taberna Kallisti
After a morning spent in the Archeological museum, we decided to go to Pirgos for the afternoon on the bus, and, having planned everything at least ten minutes in advance (!), arrived there around 3 pm feeling rather hungry and in need of some lunch. Right by the bus stop is the Taberna Kallisti, and it looked OK, so in we went.
There was a nice shady terrace and it wasn’t too crowded, but the food on people’s plates looked good. I fancied chicken souvlaki, but the waiter came back from the kitchen and apologised – they didn’t have any, but could offer us fresh grilled chicken instead – and it was very tasty. Unfortunately we’d eaten half of it before I remembered to take a picture, so sorry about that ! So chicken for two, a tomato salad and two drinks came to a total of 14.50 euros – and that included a cover charge !
Johnnie's Cafe: A Cheap Lunch
Johnnie's is one of a handful of cafes around the main square in what I would dub Pyrgos new town (i it's outside of the old, whitewashed village). It's comfortable and attractive enough (we flopped down in their cosy sofa seating and didn't want to get up again!).
Favorite Dish: The food is Greek baked goods and sandwiches. We had spinach pie and chocolate croissant, along with a couple of frappes. It was enough for lunch and was tasty and cheap.
Pyrgos: Fantastic view
we saw this taverna on our day visit to pyrgos and decided we go there and eat while the sun was setting. We were not dissapointed the view was fantastic and the food excellent. It was a bit expensive but it was a special treat and we were on holiday.

Metaxi Mas: The Locals Restaurant, With A View Of Kamari
Great food, you pay only a little more but its well worth it. It really is nice to look down onto Kamari Beach and watch the moon rise. This place has charm!
