Red Beach, Santorini Island
At the south side of Santorini you can find two beaches one close to the other. The red beach, that the sand, the rocks and all enviroment is red and the white that everything fading white! Probably, the reason is the past volcano's activity.
Ιt took its name from the color of the rocks. You can reach that beach only by foot, there is a narrow path that leads to the place and the view of the red rocks is incredible.
We were told to go to the Red Beach. There are also beaches with other colors, but we were told this was the best. You can actually go on the beach and lay or you can see its' beauty from here.
It's a bit of a challenge to reach this beach, and the sand isn't very fine, but it's a nice location to spend an afternoon and worth the effort. It's also worth the $5 to buy those woven beach mats.
The Red Beach is a unique beach composed of red volcano sand. It is situated near Akrotiri .
Once you get there, you need a little walk to reach the beach.
By the way, this is on the southern end of Thira, and just over there... You know, over there…further south of the island is Akrotiri known for the well-preserved remains of its Minoan city.
This is the Red beach. As you can see everything is fading to red from the ground there. The past volcano's activity probably is responsible for this red color.
