The cost of Taxis on the Island of Santorini

The main taxi station is just below Fira main square.
The minimum charge starts at 2 euros and then of course it depends where one wants to go.

If you decide to share (the driver considers each seperate party as a second tariff) it always depends on the time it is.
For instance if it is night the fare will be a bit more expensive and as everywhere in the world there is an extra charge for luggage or one has to pay extra if picked up from their hotels.

The fare to the port ranges between 10 - 15 euros from Fira.
A fare to Oia is between 12 - 15 Euros during the day.

    A scenic island!

    Kamari Taxi...

Ma Kettle and I had occasion to use a taxi three times from Kamari, and each time it proved to be a bit difficult. Still don't understand why...

We had to use the old ploy of entering a hotel, asked rates, then casually asking the desk clerk to order a taxi for us. Taxi drivers require an address, and since no street maps of Kamari were available even to give a co-ordinate, we were stymied. Plus, we could never find a phone when required.

Suggest you obtain the local taxi number, and program it into your cell. We should've, but stupidly didn't. We blame it on the Dameia Palace Hotel, just because we're mad at them.

Now I admit, we ordered a taxi only after we were just too darn tired to walk anymore. Each and every day we were gone by early morning, always returning to the hotel well after midnight. Fatigue had set in, and hang the expense. All buses from Thira stop in the centre of Kamari, the last one leaving Thira about 11:30 pm (we think, remember, this was Greek to us).

Taxi fare to our hotel ran approximately 12 euro, plus tip. Taxi service is not plentiful, so expect to wait a long time.

    Taxis on Santorini

There are plenty of taxis on Santorini and they are easier and more pleasant to use than their brothers in Athens. There are fixed prices between the various places on the island, and they - or you, too - may consult the price table. For radio taxis (call and order) they slap on a 5 Euro and sometimes more as a pick-up fee. If you come by bus to Fira and will proceed by taxi the taxi base is just above the bus station. 2 minutes up the hill.

    Donkey Taxi

When we arrived and disembarked from the ferry, we called our hotel (at the other end of the island, in Oia). All of their taxis were on call, so they told us to find our own taxi (a simple matter at the bustling port) and go to the Oia Post Office -- someone would meet us. The "someone" ("someoneS" actually!) turned out to be this old guy with his donkey taxi. I was torn between the practicality and charm of it, and feeling sorry for the donkey. However, after experiencing the narrow walkways, hills, and steps of Oia -- I'm glad we had the donkey! The town was crowded with day-trippers from cruise ships and we caused quite a stir.
