Delicious, fresh food which you can eat at the seafront of the cosy boulevard in Ermoupolis. Tastefull local food but also surprising dishes from around the world.
Favorite Dish: Especially the salads and fresh fish.
You dont have to miss this restaurant. People there are very kind and friendly...
They have excellent food and they are funny. They are cheap with big plates and they offer as a present sweet at the end...
I loved it
Favorite Dish: Loto's Pie
Veal in tomato sause
It is in the Loto's beach/ Kini village in Syros island, which is the capital of Cyclades. Has a lot of history and architech.
In the tavern you can find fishes, fresh vegetables (from the owner's Garden), meet and appetizers. You can also have your coffee there. They use to selebrate every Sundays with a company of people playing bouzouki, akordeon and many others intruments and we used to dance and having fun there with ouzo and raki (local drinks).
Mr George the owner has special offers for retired people and for students and for up to four members families...
Favorite Dish: Very secial and delicious plates were:
the goad with local cheese and vegetables cooked in paper
the rabbit with rosemary
the pie LOTO (spinach, meet and feta cheese)
piglet in the oven
the eggplant rolles with feta cheese inside
the parsley salad
and many many others tastes
we were literally carried to this place by a wind. shivering from the hostile northern wind, we found a place, which not only served good food, but also was a perfect hide-away from the wind.
Favorite Dish: feeling adventurous, we decided not to check the menu - we just mocked the order of the next to us table, which turned to be an excellent choice. small fish (don't know the name), which could be eaten with bones and head, the salad and of course grilled octopus and a jar of the house white wine.
This is not just a simple "traditional restaurant", but a "super-production", housing under the same roof and in a big space a traditional restaurant with local plates from Syros, "meze", the traditional Greek appetizers, a restaurant that catters to more international flavours and a musical "scene", inspired by the "rebetika tradition" of the glorious son of Syros, Markos Vamvakaris.
Favorite Dish: Some local plates from Syros.
Do you all scream for an ice-cram?In that case, your prayers have been answered!
Yes, you can find in Syros authentic Italian ice-cream in more than 20 different flavours, made in Syros by Italian "masters of ice-cream", who live in Syros!And what is more: the ice-creams are made every day with fresh milk of Syros!
Favorite Dish: Tiramisu and wild cherry.
Greece has a favourite Fast Food chain and it's name is: GOODY'S! You can find Goody's, almost, everywhere in Greece.It is Greek owned and Greek operated, with a large food selection, with a wonderful ambiance and eating there is much more delicious than MacDonald's!
Goody's Restaurant is the first thing you will notice arriving at the port of Hermoupolis, as well as the last one, because of its "strategic position": it is on the quay, opposite the anchoring point of the ships!
I specially like its decoration.All of its walls are decorated by paintings, inspired by the landscapes of Syros!
Favorite Dish: The usual type of any kind of burgers, a big selection of salads, some traditional Greek dishes, spaghetti dishes and, of course, coffees, sweets and ice-creams in a friendly and very inspiring ambiance.
a popular rustic tavern, hidden in one of the side streets off the Miaouli Square. Despite the low season, the place was full, which persuaded us in a right choice (later on I found this place among the Rough Guides restaurants recommendations). The menu is versatile and includes several local specialties, various starters including tanziki, fava beans; grilled meat and many salads. but the service is fast. Our food was delicious and house wine was excellent
this is not a restaurant, just a small coffee/pastry shop located at the beginning of the market street. it is mostly a "take-to-go" place, with four outside tables. it's a great spot for a quick rest, for watching people, as well as for to enjoying a cup of Greek coffee (for me, the best during my island hopping trip) with a piece of freshly baked traditional puffed pies - spanakopita (spinach pie), tyropita (pie with feta), and my favorite - bougatsa (pie with cream), sprinkled with cinnamon and/or nutmeg, and powdered sugar.
The art of making ice cream has been improved and new flavours are added every week, think that makes me to want to try each one of them. Here are some of my favourite flavours. Honeymoon with mascarpone, almond crokan with honey, chocolate sauce, Cuban chocolate with rum, etc. Its owners are Italians that love the good ice cream and have prooved it. It is considered a, flavour, crime to vivit the port of Ermoupoli and not to taste ice cream from Daidadi.
On the heart of Hermoupolis, the capital of Syros, on a small street, a few steps away from the City Market, there is a "delicious small jewel", a restaurant called: "To Kastri".It was created and belongs to the Syros' Women Agrotourist Cooperative.
The purpose of those talented women, professionally, as well as gastronomically, is to produce and serve high quality food, following all the hygienic standards in nutrition, but with deep love and respect to the gastronomical traditions of their grand-mothers.
The result: plenty of delicious plates from the Greek cuisine, as well the local one (from Syros, as well as, from the Cyclades).
Favorite Dish: Everything!
You can try:
Different kinds of pies (e.g: cheese pie, spinach pie, chicken pie etc),
Meat plates (beef, pork, chicken, steaks, burgers etc)
Typical Greek plates (moussaka, pastitsio, stuffed tomatoes etc)
All plates are served on the restaurant or can be taken away.
Watch the timetable: the restaurant remains open from 10.00 a.m. to 17.00 p.m.!
It is situated in an old mansion. It serves traditionnal and local specialities. Try the “Kotopoulo Giaourtada” (chicken with yoghurt and aneth) and “Diavolomezes” (meatballs with cheese and mustard).
It is situated at the port of Ermoupoli. It serves creative cuisine with Italian influences under the guidance of Italian chef Roberto Mazza. You should try the fresh pasta in combination with seafood, like stuffed tortellini with crad and lobster. Another suggestion, for you to try, is veal fillet with martini and marcarpone.
Ikogyros is a small Greek fast food joint located by the edge of the port in Syros' capital city, Ermoupoli.
It offers a handful of red plastic tables and chairs outside on the pavement and a couple of tables inside the small oven-like interior. I ate here one warm evening in May 2006, and sitting inside was not an appealing option, so I sat out front with my late evening snack. Alternatively, you can ask for your meal in a takeaway bag.
The menu mainly consists of various types of gyros and souvlaki. For example, you can have chicken or pork, with or without a pitta bread, small or large, covered or uncovered, with salad, french fries, mustard, tzatziki.
The other main option on the menu is sandwiches. A glass counter displays the various fillings that are available..........ham, cheese, lettuce, green and red peppers, onion, tomato, cucumber, pork, chicken, sausages, burgers.....and a variety of other meats, seafood and salad items.
Cans of soft drinks and beers are available from the fridge.
Favorite Dish: I opted for:
1 chicken gyros pitta - Cost: 1.80 Euros
A pitta bread filled with pieces of roasted chicken, french fries, lettuce, tomato, onions and mustard.
1 pork gyros pitta - Cost: 1.70 Euros
A pitta bread filled with grilled spicy pork shavings, french fries, lettuce, tomato, onions, paprika and tzatziki.
Amstel beer (330ml can) - Cost: 1.50 Euros
Straight from the cold fridge......but a poor alternative to draught or bottled beer!
A good place for a quick, cheap and filling snack of gyros while watching the fast-paced activity of Ermoupoli's port side.
Retro Taverna is a traditional Greek taverna located on the quiet, shaded, flower-lined lane of Odos Androu, just behind the port of Syros' capital city, Ermoupoli.
The taverna offers a handful of tables outdoors, some in the sunshine, some in the shade and others with umbrellas to keep the hot sun off you during your meal. The setting is picturesque, with bright pink flowers overhead and no traffic or throngs of people passing by. If you don't want to sit outdoors, the taverna offers many tables in its cavernous interior.
I ate here one afternoon during a visit to Syros in May 2006.
The menu includes:
Salads: A variety of different salad options, including Greek salads, garlic salad, feta cheese salad;
Soups: A handful of soup options, including vegetable, tomato, seafood;
Cheeses: A section of the menu is devoted to various cheeses. The menu didn't state what the cheese was served with;
Greek specialities: Including keftedes (meatballs), moussaka, giouvetsi, souvlaki;
Seafood: Including squid, octopus, cod, cuttlefish, sardines and a variety of shrimp-based dishes;
Grilled meats: Including beef steaks, pork chops, local traditional sausages, lamb;
Drinks: Bottled beers (Amstel, Heineken, Mythos, Kaiser), red and white Greek wines, soft drinks, coffess and other hot beverages.
The owner is a friendly elderly Greek gentleman, who spoke good English, and the service was friendly and efficient.
Favorite Dish: I opted for:
Beef steak - Cost: 8 Euros
I always have my steaks well done, and to be fair, it was well cooked. However, the quality of the steak was not particularly good. Around half of the steak was gristle and fatty meat. It did all get eaten in the end.......half by me and the other half by the cat that was loitering around my table! served with french fries, rice, lettuce and a slice of lemon. Also served with 3 slices of crusty bread (included in the cover charge of 1.20 Euros).
Mythos beer (500ml bottle) - Cost: 2.50 Euros
A lovely setting and a very extensive menu........but my meal was average at best
