This is not a victim of the fires they had in Greece this year :-). The truck looks like it has been standing here for quite some time. It still has the rest of the hoses in it, too!
You can see a lot of car wrecks on Tinos. Cars that people have just left to rot at the side of the street. Nobody seems to care - and sometimes they make good orientation points (just as: turn left at the place where the dusty mercedes is standing next to the road).
Interestingly this is not somewhere out in the wild on the island. The truck stands on the left side of the main chuch of Tinos town.
2010: It's gone.
Believe it or not, there is not only the statue of "Christ the Redemeer" in Rio!
On the island of Tinos, up to the Exombourgo Hill-where there used to be the old, as well as the medieval capital of the island (Santa Helena)-, there is the Catholic Panhellenic Pilgrimage dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
There is a nice statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, work of the famous Tiniot sculptor Ioannis Filippotis. The statue was inaugurated in 1951 and bears different inscriptions with the names -in total: 327-of all the Greek Catholics, who fell in different war battlefields, serving the Homeland (from 1912 till 1950).
The statue is not as big, as well as imposing one, as the famous one in Rio, but certainly gives a "Rioesque" flair to the island of Tinos!
Don' t miss it! If you can not be to Rio, choose Tinos!
Its a great great beach with white sand and almost private. It is in north east part of the island. You park the car in front of the beach bar and then you take the path that leads you to the beach.
