Kalymnos Things to Do

Either rent a scooter or book a daytrip on a coach which will take you around the highlights of the island. Kalymnos is so small that you can see most of the island in a day if you wanted to, but you'll be surprised about all there is to see! The coach tours take you to all the interesting places, including a sponge workshop in Pothia, the nautical museum, the village of Emborios, the green valley Vathis, the sea world museum in the beautiful village Vlichadia, the monastery and much more!

    Vathis, bay of Rina, Kalymnos

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Vathis is in the centre of the only green valley on the island, full with orange and lemon trees, 10 km northeast of Pothia. The bay of Rina is the natural gulf, which looks like a fiord with crystal clear water. There are some excellent restaurants around the bay. A real must-see when you visit Kalymnos. Some people say Vathis is the best kept secret on the island!

Kalymnos Tourist Traps

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The ferry boat from Mastihari on Kos to Kalymnos, takes around half an hour. The fare was 3 euros each way. We were the only tourists on board and "the captain" asked us for 6 euros each way as the boat was empty. This is where my knowledge of the Greek language comes in handy, needless to say we paid the 3 euros each way. Beware and do not let them get away with this!

    Emborios, Kalymnos

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Literally at the end of the road, as for north as you can go on Kalymnos, lies the small, quiet village Emborios. You can swim at the lovely surrounding beaches, enjoy a great meal at one of the taverna's and visit the settlement of Skalia. From Myrties and Massouri, there are also boat trips to Emborios. I highly recommend one of the sunset-cruises!

    Telendos island

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Telendos is the tiny, neighbouring island of Kalymnos, accessible only by sea from the port of Myrties on Kalymnos. On Telendos you can find only one village with one hotel and a few classic taverna`s. There are no roads on Telendos. It is the best destination for anyone who wants to shake of the stress of the real world!

    rock climbing Kalymnos

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Kalymnos is becoming a real sport climbing destination. The rock formations are of excellent quality, forming a field for athletic rock-climbing of amazing possibilities. Apart from about 200 single-pitch routes (5/2000), there are many cliffs of 10 to 200 meters which offer many possibilities for new routes. The rock-climbing is never monotonous, as there are routes on slabs and walls on delicate moves, or athletic routes on overhangs and roofs with holes and stalagmites.
