    Day trip around the island

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Either rent a scooter or book a daytrip on a coach which will take you around the highlights of the island. Kalymnos is so small that you can see most of the island in a day if you wanted to, but you'll be surprised about all there is to see! The coach tours take you to all the interesting places, including a sponge workshop in Pothia, the nautical museum, the village of Emborios, the green valley Vathis, the sea world museum in the beautiful village Vlichadia, the monastery and much more!

Swimming in the bay of Rina and Vathis

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Vathis is in the centre of the only green valley on the island, full with orange and lemon trees, 10 km northeast of Pothia. The bay of Rina is the natural gulf, which looks like a fiord with crystal clear water. There are some excellent restaurants around the bay. A real must-see when you visit Kalymnos. Some people say Vathis is the best kept secret on the island!

Kalymnos Tourist Traps

  • ACE OF ROAD - not recommended for...

by jurijhl Written Apr 27, 2014

Me and my girlfriend made an reservation of a scooter at Ace of road, a scooter renting company at Massouri, Kalymnos. On their webpage they offered the possibility to pick up the scooter at the harbor at which we arrived, but as we came there was no scooter waiting for us. So we had to take a taxi to get to our apartment in Massouri. There we visited their office where an arrogant and rude owner welcomed us. We already payed some money in advance, therefore we still wanted to hire the scooter at their company. Since we needed the scooter the first day just for the transport from the harbor to the apartments, we wanted to shorten our reservation for this day. But the owner responded to our ask aggressive and was not prepared to make any changes to our reservation. Nor did he excuse for not bringing the scooter to the port. However, I would like dissuade other travelers this company. Such attitude is intolerable and can be afforded just here where no labour is needed for buissnes. Anyway, there are plenty of other scooter renting companies in Massouri.

    Pirates of the aegean

    by kat-m Updated Aug 13, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The ferry boat from Mastihari on Kos to Kalymnos, takes around half an hour. The fare was 3 euros each way. We were the only tourists on board and "the captain" asked us for 6 euros each way as the boat was empty. This is where my knowledge of the Greek language comes in handy, needless to say we paid the 3 euros each way. Beware and do not let them get away with this!

Emborios, at the end of the road...

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Literally at the end of the road, as for north as you can go on Kalymnos, lies the small, quiet village Emborios. You can swim at the lovely surrounding beaches, enjoy a great meal at one of the taverna's and visit the settlement of Skalia. From Myrties and Massouri, there are also boat trips to Emborios. I highly recommend one of the sunset-cruises!

    Telendos: peace, tranquility and Greek...

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Telendos is the tiny, neighbouring island of Kalymnos, accessible only by sea from the port of Myrties on Kalymnos. On Telendos you can find only one village with one hotel and a few classic taverna`s. There are no roads on Telendos. It is the best destination for anyone who wants to shake of the stress of the real world!

    Rock climbing on Kalymnos!

by dutchiegirl Written Mar 27, 2005

Kalymnos is becoming a real sport climbing destination. The rock formations are of excellent quality, forming a field for athletic rock-climbing of amazing possibilities. Apart from about 200 single-pitch routes (5/2000), there are many cliffs of 10 to 200 meters which offer many possibilities for new routes. The rock-climbing is never monotonous, as there are routes on slabs and walls on delicate moves, or athletic routes on overhangs and roofs with holes and stalagmites.
