Karpathos Island Things to Do
Visit the northest fish village of Diafani, 26 klm away from Spoa village, about an hour ride. There you can catch a boat ride to the island of Saria, north of Karpathos. If you don't want to swim in Diafani beach you can take a 3klm road - 10 minutes - to Vananda beach which would be even more quiet.again, snorkeling is never disappointing on the...more
On the east coast of the island, on the road from Spoa village to Olympos village there are two exits towards the beach of Agios Minas. Both follow narrow, unpaved roads for about 3-4 klm down to the beach, but it is really worth the trouble!Local say that the path from the second exit is a little better to drive.Just before you reach the beach,...more
Olympos is unique on the island, as it is the only mountain village on the island. Its shape is really pictoresque, a sort of amphiteather of white and blue houses. Olympos has been isolated from the rest of the island for many years, as there is just one white road. I have been told that such a road will be asphalted soon (Septembre 2010) so, in a...more
This is definitely my favourite beach in Karpathos, although not sandy. Reachable by car, parking is free (like everywhere in Karpathos) and to stay on the beach as well. Of course, if you want to stay on the sunbeds under a sunumbrella, you'll pay 6 Euros for a full day. Half day prices are not quoted.Sea water is crystal and of an intense light...more
Karpathos Island Restaurants
Meltemi taverna-restaurant is run by Nikos, a local who, as many people from this island, has lived and worked in the U.S and has returned to his homeland. The restaurant serves fresh fish and seafood and other greek and local dishes , with good quality first ingredients, reasonable prices and respect to the place and the people. During our stay,...more
The locals call it "the eye of the wind".Exactly at the crossroads, in the middle of the island, where the wind blows the strongest and it is the ideal place to build and operate a windmill. There used to work five or six of them, now their ruins stand to remind of people's hard work to cultivate the land and feed from it....This cafe-restaurant,...more
In Karpathos the best places where to eat fish are in Finiki. We tried two and were both fantastic. Demetrios has an amazing terrance on the sea, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset (in Pigadia you are on the wrong side). Food is also excellent and relatively cheap for European standards. We had a very tasty grilled fish mixmore

Karpathos Island Off The Beaten Path
Karpathos is a greek island of raw, overwhelming natural beauty, of crystal clear waters and rocky hills where plants stubbornly stay alive against all odds ...
To be a part of that for a while it is worth taking a boat ride to visit some small bays that the crowds don't easily reach.
Reaching the beach Agios Nikolaos of Spoa village, at the local tavern named "Votsalo" (greek for pebble), ask for Vasilis. Vasilis is a fireman who owns a motorboat and when he is off duty takes small groups of people from Ag. Nikolaos to wonderful places to swim nearby, At the tavern you can see photos and ask for details.
The trip (to & from) is EUR20 per person, a little expensive but undoubtedly worth it!
Manari, Cha, Ag. Giannis are a few of the amazing places you get to see....
The places are unique for diving and snorkeling, too!Related to:
