If you head up to Zia there is a whole road dedicated either side to shopping. There are some local crafts, pure olive oils and herbs, hand made items, plenty to choose from. Whilst your in Zia make sure you have lunch in one of the roof top terraces where there are the most spectacular views over the island.
What to buy: Some of the stuff is much the same as you will get elsewhere on the island, the usual tourist tat but there are also some unusual items that you wont find anywhere else.
There are the usual selection of poor quality postcard images and bog standard calanders in all shops.
My tip is to look out for the range by George Meris, which stands out head-and-shoulders above all the rest. You will find them mainly in photographers and specialist shops. The Calanders and postcards by this photographer are simply stunning.
The postcards are 1 euro each, which includes an envelope. The calander we chose was called 'Warm Light' Calander and varied in price from the most expensive in Kos Town at 15 euros, to the least expensive in Kefalos for it for 11.5 euros.
These are the sort of images that you will want to keep and frame.
