Although Kos is an island, relatively few fish for sale. Long time is around Kos fishing with dynamite. The explosions came the stunned fish float to the surface after capture easy. Although this is an effective way of fishing appeared later proved the fishing grounds so badly damaged that the fish around Kos was severely reduced. Many restaurants hire local fishermen who provide a daily supply of fresh fish.
The restaurant is located right near the taxi station, but far enough so that there is a peaceful atmosphere. Look for a little sign and perhaps a person waiting outside to greet you in. Inside is a nice courtyard where every guest sits. The wind makes for a nice breeze and the place is nicely decorated.
Food was the most important thing for us and we had heard of the good quality here. We ordered about four starters to sample, and love most of them. The Chicken in a tomato sauce was delicious, along with the Pita bread. Also interesting but different was the meatballs in a yoghurt kind of cream. I recommend all three of those, but the Greek salad was not that great. If you like goat cheese, go ahead, but that is not my thing.
The main course was a bit different. I ordered chicken souvlaki, but my first bite was a bit odd. It was hard to chew and then I looked at the next one I cut down the middle and noticed it looked a bit raw. My dad's pork was about the same, crunchy in the middle and looked raw. So I traded it for mousaka and found that to be way more appealing. Some items on the menu had things in it that were not described under the item. My brother had mushrooms in his spaghetti, but does not like them at all and was disappointed to have to pick out so many.
Favorite Dish: Meatballs with yoghurt on top were the best. It was definitely something a person should try if they are in Greece.
Cheers Indian and Chinese Restaurant is located on Averof Street on the outskirts of Kos Town on the road leading to Lambi. It is located just a 5-10 minutes walk from Kos Town's harbour.
I ate here one night during my visit to Kos in May 2006 and was very impressed by both the choice of meals available and the quality of the food.
The restaurant has both an outdoor seating area and a few tables indoors. The staff are very friendly and attentive........unfortunately they were so attentive that I never got a private moment to take photos of my food for VT!

As the name suggests, this restaurant specialises in Chinese and Indian cuisine....but it does also offer a selection of Greek and international dishes.

Hot and sour soup - Cost: 3.50 Euros
Very good as hot and sour soups go! I've had a fair few hot and sour soups during my various travels and this one was hot enough and sour enough to satisfy my high standards!
Chicken Szechuan - Cost: 6.50 Euros
A decent sized portion, well cooked and good quality chicken. Far from the spiciest Szechuan I've ever tasted (it could definitely have done with a bit of extra kick), but tasty enough nonetheless.
Egg fried rice - Cost: 2.50 Euros
A standard dish of egg fried rice. Just about enough for one person.
Honeycomb with honey and nuts - Cost: 3.50 Euros
Not the honeycomb that I am familiar with (ie the inside of a Cadbury's Crunchie bar) but rather, a plate of small doughnuts covered with a generous helping of Greek honey and ground nuts. Definitely one for those with a sweet tooth!
Mythos beer (500 ml bottle) - Cost: 4 Euros
Pretty expensive as beers go in Greece....especially since the same bottle could be purchased for 0.80 Euros in a supermarket.
Excellent quality Chinese and Indian food. A great selection of dishes and friendly service. Highly recommended.
With a wide range to choose from on the menu including local Greek dishes, breakfast, British dishes and everything inbetween, this is the perfect restaurant to visit again and again and again!
The portion sizes are just right and the food is of a brilliant quality and very resonably priced too!
The staff, two brothers one of which is called Miltos are extremely welcoming and will remember your name for the next time you visit.
The surroundings are pretty and you sit outside, in amongst palms and banana trees.
Favorite Dish: Try anything from the traditional Greek menu! Especially the Pastichio or the Dalmades! Both are absolutely gorgeous!
The breakfasts are incredible too.
This restaurant is very special and definitely worth a visit. I would not want to visit Kos without visiting this creperie again. I was just sad that we only found it on our last day on holiday.
If you are going to go, make sure you sit out the back in the shaded area. The seats are really comfy and it has a really sophisticated, no-expense-spared feel to it!
The service is a little slow, but then when you are holiday and in such nice surroundings, who needs to rush!?
The food is to die for! I just wanted to order everything off the menu! The range of choices are just amazing... there are no words to describe it!
The prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of the food!
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish was the Crispie sweet creperie. It is a coffee/chocolatey creperie which comes with lots of ice cream!
The Bittersweet Creperie, as its name suggests, specializes in crepes with numerous different fillings, and it also has an interesting choice of different cold fruit drinks. We stopped here for a light lunch and sat out in the attractive shaded garden area at the rear which is away from the hustle and bustle of the street.
The Blue Pheonix is open during the day as a beach bar serving drinks, snacks and hiring sunbeds. You can also enjoy a meal here, particularly in the early evening (seeing the sun set over the Aegean if you're sat facing the sea) or at night watching the lights of the ferries and fishing boats from Kos Town harbour. It has a self-consciously 'cool' feel, reflected in the choice of musical soundtrack and the staff uniform. Food is within the average price range for eating out in Kos and the menu offers a selection of standard Greek and International dishes/grilled meats/pizza/pasta/salads/seafoods/desserts/coffees, etc. The standard of service and cleanliness is very high and often includes a complimentary cocktail at the end of your meal.
I recommend local taverns a bit outside of the main road, like the excellent one in the village Pili, on the main square.
Owner was extremely friendly and the local (Greek) food was fantastic.
My advice is to stick with traditional meat or fish menu and also to try the local cheese, Breaded Courgette and Ouzo.
The restaurant is located at a high point overlooking the sea. Aim for a late lunch or early dinner for a full meal-and-view experiene. Enjoy a meal under the sounds of crashing waves and inhale the sea breeze in between.
Favorite Dish: Fresh grilled fish with olive oil and lemon. Beats, steamed with garlic - full of flavor. Sinful french fries - far cry from frozen kind.
Extremely flavorful homemade cooking under trees and surrounded by flowers and herbs. Go with a big appetite and try as many "mezedes" (small dishes) as you can. Great variety of dishes - meat, fish, and perhaps more importantly, vegetables. Soothing, relaxing atmosphere - possible the most picturesque Greek restaurant in Kos. Certainly one of the best in terms food, ambience and service.
Mr. Manolis takes good care of his visitors, whether they're locals and regulars or tourists that are lucky enough to have discovered the place.
It's very difficult to get such a full greek dining experience! A must!
Favorite Dish: Impossible to choose. "Horta" - healthy steamed greens served with olive oil, lemon juice and salt. "Anthous" - zucchini flowers stuffed with the most flavorful rice; a greek delicacy. Melt-in-your-mouth eggplant in a thick tomato sauce with herbs and sauted onion. "Fava" - something like mashed split peas, served cold with thinly cut red onion and olive oil. All dishes are very simple and extremely flavorful.
Sweet watermelon at the end on the house.
The very last Taverna at the harbour end of kefalos, (as usual forgot the name). However we went there 3 or 4 times and were never dissapointed. I recomended this place to all the people we met and we ended up with quite a crowd. The waiter promised me commision and true to his word we enjoyed a beer from him.
Favorite Dish: The soutsakakia, (meat balls in red sauce), were delicious.
This was a wonderful little roadside taverna that we stumbled across while we were cycling from Kos town out past Psaladi. It's hard to describe exacly where it is except to say that it's past the big 5* hotel complex at Psaladi and past the water park too (maybe 2 or 3 km past) on the right hand side.
The eating is indoors or out (in the weather we were having outdoors was the only sensible option!) and is nicely arranged with well spaced tables. It overlooks the car park and raod a bit, but that's not too much of a detraction. Traffic is light here and there were more people on bike & foot.
The staff were weird and whacky, a bundle of laughs, but not too much "in your face". The food was simply the best we've had.
Favorite Dish: Typical Mezze fare: Saganaki cheese, hummous, fried aubergines, tzatziki, frappes... It was only a light lunch but it was sooo lovely!
Far East Restaurant is a large Chinese restaurant located close to Kos Town's harbour. It is located just inland from Dolphin Roundabout at the edge of the harbour......and if you get a table by the window (and crane your neck a little!) you can just about enjoy a sea view!
In common with many Chinese restaurants, the interior features lots of ornate red and gold decorations such as lion statues and Chinese symbols.
This restaurant offers an extensive selection of dishes, a sample of which include:
Appetizers - spring rolls, wontons, pork ribs, chicken teriyaki, chicken wings, fried prawns, duck with pancakes;
Soups - hot and sour, chicken and noodles, chicken and corn, wontons, seafood;
Main courses - a variety of stir frys containing either chicken, pork, beef, seafood or vegetables. For example, with cashew nuts, with oyster sauce, with satay sauce, with blackbean sauce, with curry sauce, with pineapple, with honey and chilli;
Rice and noodles - jasmine rice, egg fried rice, rice with chicken, rice with prawns, chow mein, various noodle dishes;
Desserts - fried banana/pineapple/apple with ice cream, strawberries with ice cream, lychees, caramel cream;
Drinks - bottled beers (Mythos, Amstel, Heineken, Tsingtao), wine, spirits, soft drinks and hot beverages (including Chinese tea).
The staff were very friendly, the service was efficient.......but I didn't feel that the food was good value for money! That is the reason why I can only give this restaurant a score of 2/5.
It's not that the food was *bad*......it wasn't, it was *average*........but having paid a significantly higher than average price for it, I was a bit disappointed which what I got! I've had far better Chinese food at far lower prices on many occasions wherever I have travelled.

Pork ribs with honey and chilli - Cost: 6 Euros
A small plate of ribs. There wasn't much bone amongst it, but a pretty large proportion of the meat was gristly and fatty. It was quite tasty, but there wasn't nearly enough chilli in it and it was in definite need of a bit more spiciness. Not very good value for money.
Szechuan Special - Cost: 9 Euros
A combination of chicken, beef and pork in a Szechuan sauce with water chestnuts, mushrooms, courgette and other vegetables. Served with fried rice containing peas, carrots and sweetcorn. There wasn't much meat in the dish and what there was of it wasn't particularly good quality. Unlike most Szechuan stir frys I've had in the past (and I've had many!), this one had a disappointing lack of spiciness and was very bland.

Irish Coffee - Cost: 4 Euros
The Irish Coffee was the highlight of the meal. While the food was bland and uninspiring, the Irish Coffee had a very potent kick! It tasted as though someone had poured a coffee sachet into a glass of whisky!
Overall, I was disappointed with the value for money that I received at this restaurant. Throughout my travels, I have consistently found better quality Chinese food at lower prices than I did here. There is a very extensive menu and the staff are friendly.
Platinum Kaffe Bar was my Internet cafe of choice for keeping in touch with VT during my visit to Kos in May 2006.
Fast speed Internet access costs 3 Euros per hour (minimum charge 1.50 Euros), and is available on three computer terminals in the back of the bar.
As well as providing Internet access, the bar also has pool tables, video games, a large TV and of course an extensive drinks list (including soft drinks, beers, wines, spirits, cocktails, coffees, teas, hot chocolate and milkshakes). I used to order a large Coca Cola with ice (2 Euros) to accompany my VTing!
The staff are friendly (they used to give me a discount on my Internet bill after I'd been in there a couple of times), and lively pop music is played in the background.
If you just want to enjoy a relaxing drink, there are a host of tables outside in the sunshine!
The Best Restaurant and Coffee Bar is located on the edge of picturesque Diagora Square in Kos Town.
Diagora Square hosts a number of cafes and restaurants, each of which has boards outside displaying food and drinks at ridiculously low prices (eg. "large beer 1 Euro", "local beer 0.50 Euros", "gyros 2 Euros"....). It seems that these offers either don't exist or they are subject to certain restrictions!
The menu at The Best Restaurant features a lot of local Greek dishes (souvlaki, gyros, moussaka, beef stifado, lamb....) and other meat dishes (beef steaks, pork chops, chicken).
I didn't study the menu too closely as I'd already decided (having been enticed by the boards outside!) what I was going to have!
Favorite Dish: I opted for:
Gyros - Cost: 2.50 Euros
A small plate of gyros (spicy grilled pork), served with pitta breads, french fries, tzatziki and salad. It was quite filling and certainly represented good value for money at just 2.50 Euros.

Good food in a peaceful, picturesque setting......just don't believe the special offers displayed outside!!
