    Toilet trouble

by savageangel Written Oct 12, 2004

I loved Greece, but the one thing I would have prefered not to deal with is the toilet system. The way it's built is very different to the UK and the pipes are much, much narrower. This means that they simply can't take toilet paper being flushed down them. They easily get clogged and back up leaving the bathroom a mess! You will always be provided with a bin for your paper, but in 40 degrees heat this is not really a pleasent thought. However I have a tip for you. If you go to any of the Greek islands, buy some of those nappy sacs (parents out there will understand, but they are little plastic bags for dirty nappys/diapers)that are fragranced and have tieable handles. You can then deposit of your waste compactly and fragrantly!

"Cover yourself with mosquito repellent at night and use a plug-in repellent in your room" said the rep on the bus in. So what did I do? That's right, completely ignored her.

Not being that bothered by the midges in Scotland, I thought I would be OK. Well, I guess the Kos mozzies have different tastes...

First night there, I went strolling after nightfall, there was scrubby vegetation along the path, and yes, I got a few bites. Worse, the first one, on my hand, I scratched. It bled and oozed for about four days.

Having said that, out of about a dozen bites over the week, only three were really a problem. And as now I know what to do with them. I got a couple of nips in Cyprus and my friend advised to put anti-perspirant on them (a tip from New Zealand). And it worked! The swelling went right down and they didn't itch. But probably better to avoid them in the first place.

The pic is a view from outside my room. Quite a few of these trailing flowery plants around the complex.

Respect the locals and the police

Kos town is an eldorado for young people who wants to party and let loose, but too much alcohol often leads to vandalizing and arguments which turn into fights.. The locals do their best to serve the tourists, but unfortunately many young tourists do not respect them, they steal, fight, are rude etc.. Believe me, you do not want to get involved with the local police. It's a totally different state than at home. Behave yourself!

    Drinking in Clubs!

    by hellas_nici Written Sep 20, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you want to dring something when you go clubing at night you have to be careful. It would be better to order alcohol or other drings which are in bottles because sometimes barkeepers mix faked alcohol in your coctails which can cause stomachache. In some cases they would even mix other things in your drinks (especially in a girl's drink) in order to make her drunk quicker.
But this things don't happen so often, its just a warning.

Don't go looking for the Casa Romana until at least 2006! It's closed for what appear to be rather lengthy restorations. The results should be well worth seeing. In the mean time, visit all of the other (free) attractions in Kos Town, Casa Romana is one of the few you'd have to pay to see anyway!

The worst accommodation in all of KOS EVER

by gwendar Written Jun 29, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Some time ago this accommodation was called THE ARTIST APARTMENTS now well i did not see a name
i remember they were once used by THOMAS COOK and described as having a doric column next to its swimming pool.
That contained genuine roman tiles in it this was very true and portrayed as a beautiful gardened
    accommodation .
The pool is no longer there filled in and for good reason it was deep and dangerous the apartments
well they needed to be condemned the plumbing was shocking and electrics deadly.
As to facility's a bar of shorts and a farm yard of animals.
The place i think is not on anyone's books now but if you were to be offered it as a emergency accommodation
say no and find a place on the Beach

coming of road in to apartments approaching accom block well there's less vegetation now only splash pool left now main pool was infront The Column, bar to rear, and where the pool was
