Need help with your bags? by jayhawk2000 Pack light light LIGHT. Limit yourself to one piece of luggage and a carry-on, then maybe pack an empty bag or backpack to carry back your souvenirs, new clothes and cheap booze. If you're worried about tipping the scales coming back, dump heavy toiletries like shampoo and sun lotion. Still wary about the weight? Stuff your carry-on full of the heavy stuff because the airport staff hardly ever weigh them. The only carry-on I've ever had weighed was a backpack, probably because it's bigger than your usual carrier bags, bags for life and handbags. ***This was before the recent ban on carrying liquids into the cabin*** STILL too heavy? Time to start putting on layers and layers of clothes!
Lay out the clothes you want to wear before packing, then take half. I over-estimated how many socks to pack...I ended up not wearing ANY because I had sandals on all the time. You're not dining with the ambassador or going to the opera, so one dressy shirt for nights out will be plenty. Otherwise shorts and T-shirts will be enough. It can be fun shopping for cheap clothes once you're there if you're desperate for a new outfit.
Sun creme was ludicrously expensive in Rhodes, even the cheap generic brands imported from the UK. Stock up at home as you'll be slathering yourself twice a day every day!
Bring lots of camera batteries, you'll run through them quickly and they can be expensive to buy locally. A British battery recharger should work fine although you'll need a plug adaptor for the pins.
Rhodes remains a duty-free holiday destination, meaning alcohol and cigarettes are incredibly cheap. I'm talking 1L bottles of brand name spirits for about the third of what you'd pay in Britain. When shopping, avoid glass bottles and look for special plastic containers. A 1L glass bottle of spirits weighs more than 2 litres of the same spirit in plastic bottles! Some shops will also decant the spirit into a plastic bottle or sell the bottles separately which is a life saver for low-cost lushes like us! Leave a Comment

There are hundreds of tourist shops selling amazing trinkets, so make sure you have some room in your baggage. Also, a good back-pack or shoulder bag is ideal for taking your belongings with you to go exploring.
If you are going in the summer months it can get extremely hot, so light coloured, loose fitting clothing is a must. Make sure you take a hat with you, preferably a fully brimmed hat rather than a baseball cap. In the winter months the rain can get horrendous, but it is still usually very warm, so light rain coats are highly recomended.
Sun cream is a must for the summer months. Mosquito repellent and bite treatment cream is also necessery. If you venture off the main roads, as you will undoubtadly do here, either make sure your legs are fully covered or bring plasters and antiseptic wipes incase your legs get scratched by the dry twigs and roots that stick up out of the ground.
There are some amazing views here, and to not bring a camera would be a disaster
Some swimming in the sea is a must-do here, so bring swimming clothes, beach towels and any snorkeling equipment you have. Leave a Comment

Protecting myself ;-) by Maggies As the sun is pretty strong here always remember about wearing a cap, sunglasses and putting sunblock. If you go to the pebble beach on the western side of the island, the swimming shoes will be needed.

by ohluckyme you should bring some special boots (might be swimming boots tourist use) to walk along the shore...it really hurts to enter the water without having any feet protection! :)
