Blue Palm: Fuses old and new

by SLK Updated Sep 7, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It describes itself as a Cafe Bar, Restaurant, Satellite TV, Music Bar. Pretty much sums it up!
3 Large screens mean you have a choice of something to watch (just ask the boss Nikos). While I was there each night they showed Big Brother/Live football, ok not to everyones taste but the place was packed. Don't like that? Music videos play on.

The food was very good, spaghetti carbonara was surprisingly good and they do an excellent Margarita. In fact the Blue Palm was the venue for my birthday. Mum asked Nikos to get a cake, bingo, next night their it was some fantastic strawberry creation. And that's what I mean about old and new. Yes there are the big screens feeding you music, football and whatever else is on, the cream/cane sofas are comfy but the big difference is the more old style service. That fact that the first night the boss comes over and chats with you, the fact that they remember what you had to drink, ok might be superficial but they are important touches that make you feel relaxed, welcome and more than another Euro coming through the door.

    Favorite Dish: Tsaksiki+pitta
    Mousaka
Spaghetti Carbonara - better than I've had in many Italian restaurants at home.

Well haraki is a fantastic place! And i can tell you that it's even more fantastic if you spend your days in Joy pool bar!
joy Pool Bar is quality! Friendly owner (pavlos) lovely atmosphere! Great music! You just have to visit this place!

Quality is not just a word just have a look at the liquer shelves!

Breakfast is simple amazing! kitchen has a window so you can see inside!

I spent all my time in joy pool and when i go back i ll simple do the same!

The bad thing in haraki is that bar owners argue with each other the whole time and as a customer when you are at the sea front you are in danger of getting bitten up! Specially from the scotish woman who owns a bar there!

Heaven on earth is also a beautiful place to spend an evening! Andrea is such a nice girl!

The best restaurant that we visited was chef tommies! We rented a car from M&S and we were totally satisfied! Anyway this octomber am staying again in Alia studios and i 'll be spending my day and night in Joy Pool Bar!

Favorite Dish: PIMPS JUICE joy's special burger and morning english huge breakfasts for only 4 euros

I cannot remember the name of the taverna but it was on the only road out of haraki and stands on its own. The food was excellent, the people were lovely and judging by the repeat visits from us and other customers we were not alone in thinking that this taverna was special.

Favorite Dish: The homemade lamb in the oven. Mouthwateringly delicious.

Argos Fish Taverna: fish for thought

At least dick turpin wore a mask

Having a nice relaxing day on the beach, our last day in Haraki. We decided to go and have a light lunch at the fish taverna on the beach. For one shared greek salad , 2 " micro" fish a\nd 2 small beers. 50 euros. I was livid to say the least, these people are rip off merchants. Haraki has no money exchange so our fish turned out to be very expensive when you add in the trip to lindos to get more money!! Definately thumbs down to this taverna.

Restaurant Pezouli: Popular restaurant in Ixia

by HyperFredde Written Jan 29, 2006

    Pezouli

In the aera of Ialyssos there is a popular restaurant called Pezouli (as seen on the picture). I guess the reason it is so popular is because it looks very greek. The restaurant itself was nothing special, the staff was very busy and we waited for about 20 - 30 minutes until we got the menu so we were not very satisfied. Conclusion - chose less popular restaurants, the food and & service is normally better there.

La Casa Nostra: Stop Press....Eat well in Rhodes New Town!

by Elenitsa Written Oct 22, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Doesn't really do it justice!

Good value and good quality food for Rhodes Town. Staters of Grilled peppers and mushrooms in sauce. 2 main courses of snapper (and they were very quick to remind me it wasn't RED snapper, only "snapper"!) plus wine came to 34 euros - a bargain for Rhodes Town. Nice surroundings, reminded me of a lot of the restaurants in Rethymnon old town as it uses part of one of the older buildings in the New Town.

Tucked away from the noise - smashing! Didn't expect to find something like this in this price band! We ate there 2 nights running!

Favorite Dish: Oh - the snapper, definately the snapper!

Da Vinci's: Pasta, pizza and much more

by Elenitsa Updated Oct 16, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Steve & Soula have maintained, if not improved on, the quality of the food in their restaurant since opening in 2003.

The pasta and pizza dishes are divine and rival anything I've had in the big city at home! The specials (we tried Chicken Victoria (with seafood and white wine sauce) and Lamb cooked with Marsala) are delicious. The stand out dish is a seafood in white wine, cream and cheese sauce which is served as a starter...........at 7.50 euro it might seem a bit steep - but trust me one shared between two is plenty!

Considering the quality prices are reasonable - a GOOD bottle of wine, the seafood starter shared, and two large helpings of pasta came out at 34 euros at time of writing (Oct 2005) and if you want to keep costs down by sharing a large pizza between 2 - that's fine! A good line of Greek starters and grills are available as well.

You also get to watch the pizzas being made from scratch (they have a thriving take away/delivery service to the nearby villages of Massari and Malonas)!

Excellent food and a sea view

Everthing we ate was well prepared and a good size portion - the gigantes were some of the best I've ever tasted. Cod with skordalia, octopus, cheeses keftedes, chick pea keftedes - never had a bad meal.

Tables inside or on the esplanade overlooking the beach.

  • Romios: The Perfect Spot in Rhodes Town!

    by alsmith111 Written Aug 20, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you want to get away from the bland menus serving what the cooks think tourists want to eat, then search out Romios in the Old Town of Rhodes. The ambiance is well worth the few extra paces to find the restaurant. The restaurant was lovely inside, but no one chose to sit inside...not when the seating outside was so relaxing and lovely. Two large trees, with netting strung below them to stop any leaves from falling into your meal, shade you from any sun, should you choose to dine here before the sun sets. But at night, the atmosphere is heightened with hanging lantures and cushions on wrought-iron benches. The staff is attentive and courteous. And for the same price as you would pay for a bland meal in the tourist trap restaurants in the main plazas, here you will get a meal that is freshly prepared by a team (of women when we were there) that take incredible pride in what they prepare. Even the children's meals that they offered were freshly prepared, and slightly different each time we ate there.

Favorite Dish: If you want a taste of traditional Greek food, the Greek plate is recommended. The Hummous was freshly made and light; the calamari was lightly battered and not at chewy...a real treat! The fresh seafood (whatever the catch of the day) was grilled with the just the right amout of flavourings added so as not to overwhelm the taste of the fish. All accompaniements were always fresh and nicely presented.

Haraki Bay Hotel: Cold Greek Appetizers

by sandysmith Updated Jul 22, 2005

    cold greek platter

The small hotel in Haraki Bay of the same name had a delightful little restaurant with tables on the promenade overlooking the beach. We were spending the day here so lunch was in order and was deliciously filling. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere....somewhere we will definitely return to.

Favorite Dish: Not wanting a big meal - we were eating fine dinners back in Rhodes town we opted to share a plate of cold greek appetizers - and in case that was not enough a tuna salad. Well it was plenty for two - the cold platter had octopus salad (which surprised Dave how much he enjoyed it) smoked salmon, aubergine salad, tarasmalata. potato salad, tatziki, chick pea houmas with salad and feta cheese etc.. and plenty of pitta bread.
Being a not so touristic place it was relatively inexpensive - about 20 euros with drinks.

Old and New Kamiros: Two Tavernas in Kamiros

by sandysmith Written Jun 29, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    shady tables by the beach

Down the hill from Kamiros by the beach on the west coast of Rhodes are two tavenas to choose from - New Kamiros and Old Kamiros. Probably not a lot to choose between them - the New Kamiros Taverna was larger and a coach party wason its way there so we opted for the other one. It was quite funny really as a couple of people were watching to see which one the coach went to before making their choice!

Favorite Dish: Just a simple lunch of shared plates of fried squid and cheese balls...but the view and peacefulness was the main enjoyment.....

    Rhobel: Try the sate !

by RuudGroeneveld Updated May 17, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Rhobel is a great place to have your diner. They serve quality food and once you've been there you'll become a regular. The owners are from Belgium but the most customers are from Holland. But you'll also see Greek, Scandinavian or German people.

Favorite Dish: You''ll have to try the sate. Just because it's a real Dutch thing to eat. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

    Any: Rooftop Restaurants (Rhodes City)

    Rhodes Old Town

Due to the little place in the medieval city it's very common to see the restaurants on the rooftops. It's quite enjoyable to have a dinner in such place and I believe they should be crowded most of the time. But as it was generally very quiet when I was there, the waiters inviting the tourists the their restaurants were making most of the crowd.
