We never looked for this object, we only came across its gate on our way to an Internet cafe (which we didn't find because information contained in 'Lonely Planet' was outdated).
Looks like this is the only stadium in the town of Rhodes. I truly believe that it looks much more impressive and modern on the inside, especially that Rolex seems to be one of its sponsors.
Anyway, should you be seeking sports emotions - look for this stadium. It's located south-east of Rhodes town, very close to the city walls.

I'm not really into sports and all my 'Sports Activities' tips are somehow crippled. But anyway, the only kind of sports activity I practice during my holidays is mini golf.
There are numerous mini golf courses around Rhodes, especially in tourist villages. They provide entertainment to bored families which is way better than if those families were to sit in front of a tv screen.
In this mini golf playground we spent a few evenings enjoying long drinks and having a really good care free time. The staff was very friendly although we didn't spend much money there. They just seemed to be hospitable.

In Faliraki town, about 15 kilometers from Rhodes city, there's this great water park. A free bus drives from Rhodes city centre straight to Faliraki water park.
The park has several activities: tube slides, mattress slides, a gym pool, wave pool, river rafting plus some bars and fast food services and chairs for sunbathing.
Equipment: Swim suits, water proof shoes (like diving shoes that you can use in the slides too) because the asphalt is burning your bare feet!
Remember water-proof sun-cream because you'll easily get burn in the water and the sunshine. A water proof bag (like what you can carry in your neck) for money and the locker key.

How many times does it happen...?
There you are minding your own business and suddenly you stumble on some kind of momentous event...
It was just a case of right place at the right time! :-)
Funnily enough our first day trip to Rhodes Town was scuppered by a flat tyre on our car and the discovery that it was missing the jack to replace the flat with. It was a couple of hours before Holiday Autos were able to come out and replace the tyre and jack and by then it was too late to drive up to Rhodes Town and we just swapped our itineraries with the next day...
Funnier still we said that it might have happened for a reason - and lo and behold, we ended up in town on THE DAY that the Olympic Torch was touring Rhodes!
So we checked the route and found a suitable Taverna overlooking the main square of Plateia Ippokratous in the Old Town and waited...
And waited...
And waited...
And waited...
Until the next torch bearer in the relay arrived. While we waited for the spectacle of the relaying and passing of the torch, we saw people lining up for photos and I thought "why not?"
It was such a rush being caught up in the fantastic Olympic fever, especially only just over a week after Greece had won the Football European Cup - it truly was a proud time for Greeks!
I still can't believe I actually held a torch that carried the flame towards the 2004 Olympics! :-)
Equipment: A Torch! :-)
I had to click 'Other' as the appropriate Sports Theme, but really with the Olympics it is 'All of the above'!

The beach at Prassonissi in the south of Rhodes seems to be a good place for surfers. It's windy there and you can choose between the wavy Agean Sea or the calm Mediteranean Sea. We've seen lots of surfers at the Mediteranean, and there also were some kite-surfers on the Agean Sea.

If you want to snorkel, the area around the Kalithea spa is perfect for you! At the spa itself, there is a rocky beach with few sand, and you even can borrow snorkel. Close to it, there are some more rocky beaches. From the parking, you already see one, and the one of the photo is found a bit more south, behind a pine forest.
The water is absolutely clear, the rocks in the water are very interesting and there are several fishes, of course. Most mussels we saw were "inhabited" by kind of crabs - looks very funny when suddenly some legs come out of mussel and it is walking away!

Lalysos beach is at the western side of the modern city of Rhodes.
Is not a wonderful beach (pebbles) but is OK for a lazy morning. There are many buses going there, and is used mainly by locals, as tourists use to go to tout of town beaches.

Once you do some training on the shore you can play in the water. It's much cooler and funnier too.

Seems like everyone on the beach plays paddle ball. Sometimes it's hard to find the free space on the shore.
